Bachelor’s degree in the instructional discipline
A valid North Carolina motor vehicle operator’s license
Work Experience
One year of successful teaching experience in a community college or similar postsecondary institution or evidence of other appropriate experience relevant to the position.

1. A thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System;
2. Demonstrates professional competence in oral and written communication needed for effective teaching;
3. Ability to maintain clear and meaningful criteria or standards for effective performance;
4. Possess strong knowledge of computer fundamentals, such as word processing, manipulation of spreadsheets, presentation programs, and computer-aided instructional technology;
5. Sensitive to the needs and expectations of disadvantaged students and incarcerated populations.
6. Promotes relationships of trust and respect throughout the college and the community;
7. A valid North Carolina motor vehicle operator’s license.
Essential Functions
The Reading/English/Mathematics Instructors are responsible for providing a quality learning environment to College and Career Readiness students in a correctional facility setting. The faculty members provide instruction and complete other duties and responsibilities in accordance with the mission and policies of the college and host correctional facility. The work site for this position is Orange Correctional Center,
2110 Clarence Walters Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
Job Duties
1. Conducts assigned classes in accordance with the C&CR course descriptions and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
2. Be fully prepared with instructional plans and provide student sign-in sheets during each class session as required by the state office.
3. Use a variety of instructional technologies as approved by the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Such as computers to provide contemporary presentations in the classroom.
4. Maintains professional competence by participating in professional development opportunities and incorporating them into instruction.
5. Maintain student records, forms, process reports, and all other required paperwork in a punctual and efficient manner.
6. Complete the registration process and academic advisement of students.
7. When needed, be available to teach both day and evening classes and off-campus classes as part of the regularly assigned teaching load.
8. Enforce academic policies and procedures at all times, and comply with all other institutional rules and regulations pertinent to classroom instruction and general employment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described as follows are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time;
- Ability to lift, at times, 10 lbs.; and
- Good eye/hand dexterity.
Required Working Hours
The part-time instructor is required to work as contracted per course, which may include day and/or evening responsibilities and duties
