Description

The Controller is accountable for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the necessary procedures and systems for the financial control of the Company by 1) processing, analyzing, and reporting data relating to the financial and operational activities of the Company and 2) maintaining controls for the safeguarding of Company assets.

Implement policy direction, systems and procedures in support of overall management objectives and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and laws and regulations, to be followed in the compilation of accounting and cost data. Develop and maintain specific internal control programs including, but not limited to, expenditure authorization, recording of transactions and safeguarding of assets. Analyze Company financial and operating results. Responsible for the development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization. Direct the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements and related operating information for external and management purposes, including operating, cost variance and other reports, forecasts and statistics. Implement financial and control processes at operating location.

· Assist in the development and administration of profit planning programs and supervise the preparation and assembly of related capital and operating budgets.

· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

· Direct and/or participate in, studies relating to long and short term corporate planning, acquisitions, corporate financing and such other projects as may be assigned.

· Keeps continuously informed of new accounting methods, proposed legislation, as well as accounting principles promulgated by the Accounting Principles Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to permit the corporation to comply with all reporting requirements.

Responsibilities include:

· Manage day-to-day functioning of accounting, IT, and finance function for Company; collaborate with Mine Manager and HR Specialist for HR any management needs

  • Manage staff of 5 including: Accounting Manager, HR specialist, A/P specialist and Warehouse/Shipping coordinator
  • Help manage outside IT consultant
  • Manage daily activities of the Moab Finance Office

· Prepare, or manage the preparation of, periodic financial and operating reports

  • Responsible for accuracy and completeness of all detailed financial reporting
  • Maintain system of financial controls, supporting auditable financial statements as well as providing timely and actionable financial/operational data
  • Prepare and analyze monthly income statement, statement of cash flows and balance sheet
  • Perform/manage monthly close and reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Manage the preparation of monthly operating cost and inventory reports, as well as capital expenditure tracking
  • Prepare monthly management reports as well as various other weekly and monthly accounting statements and reports
  • Support operational management with periodic reporting as well as ad hoc requests
  • Support preparation of quarterly lender reporting, including covenant calculations

· Prepare, or manage the preparation and maintenance of annual budgets, monthly P&L forecasts, 26 week cash flow forecasts and related operating reports

· Manage annual audit and tax return preparation

· Manage client billing and receivable collection

· Manage accounts payable and cash cycle

· Manage payroll function

· Oversee the accounting system and general ledger

· Perform other duties as required

· Maintain confidentiality and professional handling of sensitive matters

· Manage insurance and bond renewals

· Develop and maintain communications and relationships with all key vendors and banks

The ideal candidate:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with ten years of related experience, with previous management of financial professionals in a corporate operating environment.

· Certified Public Accountant or MBA/CFA

· Desire to grow within the company to take on higher level responsibility

· Demonstrated experience successfully managing annual audit

· Strong working knowledge of corporate accounting, planning, financial analysis and generally accepted accounting principles.

· Ability to analyze operational costs and support operational management in making meaningful improvements

· Must be able to analyze complex accounting issues, make recommendations and justify positions taken.

· Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.

· Strong management and leadership skills.

· Ability to work overtime as required

· Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Criteria/Conditions

· Report to part time CFO based on East coast and work closely with CEO based between Denver and mine site and Mine Manager based in Moab and mine site as well as other managers at the company.

· Position is in a small office located in Moab, UT

· Work periodically may occur at the mine site and rarely may be in remote field conditions with a wide range of physical conditions

· Personal protective equipment is required when performing work at the mine, outdoor, or manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
