POSITION DESCRIPTION

Maurer-Stutz, Inc. is seeking a construction engineer to join our existing team in Peoria, Illinois. This position will be responsible for
observation and documentation on various IDOT, municipal, and private projects. Candidates will be working with clients and

contractors to solve problems while verifying the project plans and specification are being met. Field work can be expected during the
construction season. Candidates should be able to work well independently, have the desire to learn new skills, and demonstrate

technical, analytical, and communication capabilities.

EXAMPLES OF RECENT CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS:

Construction Engineering services for a Federally funded Major Bridge Program. The project included the construction of a new
single span steel girder bridge on 16” diameter metal shell piles with MSE retaining walls. The new bridge included concrete

pavement, dedicated bicycle lane, lighting, and green drainage improvements.
Construction Engineering services for 0.75 miles of urban roadway reconstruction. Improvements included storm sewer, box

culverts, lighting, traffic signals, sidewalk, pervious brick pavers, and HMA pavement.

Construction Resident Engineering services for a project consisting of a 2-mile bike trail mainly through a park with multiple roadway
crossing. 7 acres of trees were removed to make room for the 8’ wide bike trail. Two pedestrian bridges over 100’ each were

constructed over a creek to complete the hot-mix asphalt trail.

CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform or supervise material testing
Measure lengths, areas, and volumes of quantities for documentation

Communicate with contractors, clients, and the public regarding project information
Locate, evaluate, and solve problems in the field

Use survey equipment to verify construction layout

BASE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, General Engineering, or related field from an ABET Accredited
College or University with the desire to learn.


Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills

Good written and verbal communication
Good interpersonal skills

Experience with Microsoft Office
