Community Outreach and Youth Coordinator

ORGANIZATION: Pittsford Youth Services

Pittsford Youth Services, Inc. (PYS) provides confidential social work services through the public and private Pittsford schools, as well as individual and family counseling at offices in the Village of Pittsford. The agency has a staff of licensed masters-level social workers (LMSW, LCSW) trained to provide services to youth and their families who are in crisis and/or challenged by social/emotional issues both in and outside of the school setting. PYS services include individual and family mental health services, group counseling, advocacy, referral to appropriate mental health providers, and educational resources for youth and parents.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Prevention/Education/Behavioral Health Support: Work in association with the Clinical Director and PYS clinicians to develop support groups, programs and experiences for youth and families who have specific needs or who are experiencing stressful life experiences, having difficulties coping, or are at-risk for emotional or behavioral challenges. These programs and experiences should have a clear purpose that helps youth and develop coping skills and healthy behaviors.

Community Awareness and Outreach: Positively represent PYS to the community, public, schools, PTSA, other agencies. Assist with the creation of an effective social media strategy delivered through the PYS website, relevant social media platforms, E-newsletters, and public awareness activities to foster enhanced community understanding of the services PYS provides.

Youth Development: Design and implement non-therapeutic activities and events to support emotional well-being, including workshops, groups and other forms of community education to raise awareness and build skills for healthy living, including development of social-emotional skills and resiliency.

Youth Advisory Board: Provide organizational leadership and guidance to the PYS Youth Board including the recruitment and selection of members. Facilitate regular meetings, provide mentoring, develop and create new programs and events, promote leadership among members and facilitate the advisory board’s active participation and presence at community events.

Tangible Support for Youth and Families: Assist executive staff in providing support to local youth and families in need through coordination of activities such as holiday food and gift card collection.

Fundraising: Assist with the planning, and execution of annual PYS signature events, such as the PYS Duck Drop. Support the Executive Director of Administration as needed in the design, development, and implementation of organizational fundraising events.

Communications /PR: Assist with the creation and distribution of agency marketing materials – brochures, posters, invitations, flyers, social media, website, and mailings. In collaboration with school and community partners, assist with promoting educational programs and communication through social media, town and school newsletters.

Other: Create a safe and supportive environment for all youth, including LGBTQI+ youth and those from racially and culturally diverse populations. Ensure program participants adhere to all PYS policies, procedures, and protocols. Maintain appropriate documentation and program metrics as needed.

• Enthusiasm for working with and engaging youth

• Ability to de-escalate situations and provide conflict resolution and/or mediation skills.
• Able to develop partnerships with PYS constituencies and the local community.
• Must be flexible and well organized and a creative problem solver
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
• Must be able to collect, evaluate and organize data
• Requires judgment, integrity, and tact
• Must demonstrate initiative
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull 25+ pounds

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Experience managing different personalities and engaging across cultures
• Demonstrated ability to use social media to engage youth and promote and advertise events and programs
• Experience in conducting groups or workshops preferred
• Familiarity with local schools, and community resources strongly preferred
• Experience working with and providing support for at-risk youth preferred
• Possess knowledge of youth/adolescent development, including positive youth development
• Must have at least two years of programming and counseling/mental health experience
• Experience writing and editing communications for different audiences preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint plus other database, email and calendar-keeping, software, and technologies necessary.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college or university in education, social work, health education, human services, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Hours: Variable, average of 15 per week

Rate: $20-23/hour
