Reports to: Assistant Director
Program: Youth Action Project Young Scholars
Stipend: Approximately $1020 bi-weekly, plus an education award of up to $4,546.50
Term of Service: August 2022 - June 2023

Position Description:
Our Community Engagement Specialists (CES) develop and implement events, initiatives, and marketing campaigns that
increase the awareness and engagement of community members in volunteerism, community development, and public health initiatives. A CES should be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven to take on this exciting role. This position requires someone with a positive attitude and readiness to be a team player.

Primary Responsibilities:
Member duties do not include any prohibited or unallowable activities per 45 CFR ยง 2520.65

  • 1. Conduct outreach efforts through canvassing, focus groups, podcasts/webinars, and town halls to promote information about access to health care not limited to COVID 19 recovery and capture community stories.
  • 2. Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities.
  • 3. Preparing budget requests for community outreach activities.
  • 4. Coordinating and/or supporting community-benefit events and projects that support the delivery of community resources in relation to healthy futures.
  • 5. Nurturing new and old relationships with collaborative partners.
  • 6. Preparing accurate records and reports on goal attainment.
  • 7. Creating, editing, and posting digital content for Youth Action Project and collaborative projects that promotes community resources.
  • 8. Liaise regularly with community members to disseminate information, collect survey and focus group data, and engage residents in community development initiatives.
  • 9. Engage at least 500 residents to support capturing ten community member stories and providing 250 community members health-related educational resources through outreach strategies.
  • 10. Participate in required training (Training hours not exceeding 20% of total hours), National Days of Service, and other compliance elements outlined by AmeriCorps.
  • 11. Support overall programmatic goals and outcomes for the program.

Qualifications: *

  • 1. Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident; at least 17 years of age (requires high school completion and parent/guardian consent).
  • 2. High school diploma or GED required; minimum of 48 college semesters or 60 college quarter units strongly preferred.
  • 3. Outstanding written communication, report preparation, and presentation skills desired.
  • 4. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • 5. Must have reliable transportation to travel to school site(s), YAP office, and meeting sites as required.
  • 6. Must be available and willing to serve occasional evenings and weekends.
  • 7. Must be able to lead events and activities while ensuring participant safety; activity may include prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and outdoor exposure.
  • 8. Agree to a National Service Criminal History Check and successfully clear all required criminal background checks, including the National Sex Offender Registry, Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and State of Origin (if applicable).

Term of Service:

  • Completion of 1200 service and training hours in the 2022-2023 academic year is required. The service term begins in August 2022 and ends in June 2023.
  • Service is required Monday through Friday, 10:00 am-5:00 pm, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours served when needed. Scheduled hours are subject to change.
  • Required participation in national days of service such as 9/11 National Day of Service, Martin Luther King Day of Service, Cesar Chavez Day of Service, AmeriCorps State Service Day, and AmeriCorps Week.
  • As a benefit, Members with qualifying education loans can apply for loan forbearance at the start of service through the My AmeriCorps portal if they qualify. Total living allowance and education award amounts are based on performing the minimum hours of the term of service and successfully completing the program requirements.
