Overview:
Underthe supervision of the Multimedia Communications Supervisor. The Communications Specialist functions as an in-house writer for the Central Health Communications Department. We are looking for an exceptional writer who knows how tell engaging stories that move people to take action. The successful candidate understands how to write newsworthy press releases that start with research and/or data and lead to positive media coverage, and can craft content for social media that leads to meaningful engagement and amplification. The ideal candidate has the ability to analyze, understand and write about complex issues in the healthcare space. To succeed here, you must think and act like a journalist and possess an insatiable appetite for finding and creating strong content that can be shared across multiple digital platforms and with the media.
The audiences we strive to reach is extremely diverse, and we connect with them through the press and across Central Health's owned channels (i.e. social media, websites, e-newsletters and more). We are looking for someone who is passionate about promoting Central Health's mission - connecting people with low-income to care and coverage. Writing assignments will vary daily, from writing news
releases, talking points, and scripts for video and PowerPoint presentations, to developing collateral material for marketing efforts (i.e.
fact sheets, brochures, push cards).

This position is considered Hybrid, which means that individuals in this position may work both at an approved Offsite location and Onsite at a primary
location or multiple locations based on Business Needs.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties (at least 5 that are non-negotiable duties and are absolutely pertinent to successfully completing the job without
accommodations):
  • Identify, research, and write original, engaging, and compelling stories across multiple channels(i.e. press releases, websites, newsletters, marketing materials, social media, etc).
  • Attend and participate in meetings where news and story ideas are generated, and follow up accordingly.
  • Analyze and understand complex issues, then write about them in approachable, understandable ways that resonate with the appropriate target audience.
  • Write clear, concise and grammatically correct copy and ensure accuracy and consistency of voice, style, tone etc.
  • Edit all copy prior to submission for approval.
  • Be able to differentiate style and approach based on the intended outlet.
  • Lead the production of press kit materials for media outlets, including press releases, images, videos, pitch letters, case studies, feature articles, and trend stories.
  • Respond to information requests from the public, elected officials, and members of the media.
  • Support content creation forsocial media posts and work to increase engagement.
  • Support media relations efforts including press conferences, interviews, and other media and event opportunities.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, or related degree

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
  • Three years professional experience as a full-time employee working as a journalist for a media organization or working with journalists in a PR/marketing role.
  • Must have professional experience writing original content (writing copy, press releases, fact sheets, social media posts etc.) for a multi- faceted organization either in the private or public sector, using all available communications channels including (but not limited to) web, broadcast, print, and social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, plus emerging platforms to be identified).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years professional experience working either for a private for-profit PR/communications agency or as an inhouse communications professional for a public entity, nonprofit or healthcare or
