Job Description
Performs a variety of complex duties of clerical, administrative, and technical work involved in the receipt and dispatching of routine and emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Obtains complete, accurate, and appropriate information from callers. Employs multitasking skills to evaluate, prioritize and process the complaint or request. Determines what further action is necessary and dispatches proper personnel or makes command notifications as necessary. Performs effectively during high volume telephone and radio traffic and during volatile conditions.
Required Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Completion of computer terminal course (LEADS) within first four months of employment; demonstrates ability to perform under stressful conditions; Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks..
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license.
High School diploma or GED.
Complete minimum training standards required by the Ohio Administrative Code 128.021 within the first six months of employment and/or before being released from direct oversight; complete minimum continuing education provided by the Ohio Department of Administrative Services; Demonstrates the ability to follow policies and procedures as well as perform within the required call answering and processing times.

Description of Job Duty
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.
Receives and records telephone and walk-in calls and complaints; receives and transmits radio communications dispatching personnel and cruisers to disturbances; coordinates back-up and support activities via radio with other jurisdictions; operates computer terminal to verify and record vehicle and personal information (e.g., verifies vehicle registration and license information, enters wants and warrants, enters and clears stolen property, missing persons, listings, etc.); establishes priorities regarding the importance of answering and reporting calls and complaints to patrol cars.
Maintains, logs and updates records of all calls, incidents, receptions, and transmissions; prepares and files required reports (e.g., master cards, house checks forms, warrants, affidavits, etc.
Monitors electronic systems (e.g., scanners, alarms, alarm panels, Diebold board, etc.) to provide security and to answer fire and burglary alarms.
