Job Summary

The Commercial Lines Trainer is responsible for training new employees within the department including the Underwriter, Underwriting Assistant, Technical Assistant and Service center positions as well as assist in training seasoned employees on new functions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for teaching new employees how to process business utilizing established guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Regional Manager(s) in proper assignment of agents to new employees or existing employees and regulating territory assignments per Underwriter.
  • Design a new employee training schedule
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and/or establishing a resource guide that will provide a quick one stop reference document & maintain underwriting rules, documents per the established guide.
  • Research industry trends, challenges, and opportunities to inform new program/product development. Make recommendations to Commercial Lines management staff as needed.
  • Create and deliver technical sales training packages through in-person and remote workshops, conferences, and organization-specific engagements for producers, agencies and insurance organizations.
  • Demonstrate how to accurately research underwriting information to new employees
  • Be responsible for the development and maintaining of any documents required for Underwriter systems training
  • Establish and maintain a training schedule for all applicable positions
  • Guide new employees in efficiently determining and requesting the appropriate underwriting support documentation needed for each account
  • Guide new employees in providing timely, courteous, and efficient customer service to internal and external clients including efficient assistance to other departments as needed.
  • Assist new employees with user ids & passwords to all applicable websites and system access
  • Actively participate in project teams as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience including insurance designations
  • Insurance education –, AINS, AU, CLCS, etc. (preferred)
  • Previous insurance or related work experience in mentoring a team
  • Previous Commercial Lines underwriting experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
