PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Commercial Credit Analyst will be responsible for supporting business relationship managers (commercial loan officers) in the analysis, underwriting, and monitoring of commercial loans. In accordance with established internal commercial lending policy and procedures, the Commercial Credit Analyst is responsible for the compilation of data as it relates to the preparation of credit packages (or pre-screens) incorporating financial spreads, cash flow, value of collateral, appraisals, pro-forma analysis, and other data pertinent to the loan request. The person in this role interprets the outcome of the analysis and prepares summary recommendations for loan requests submitted through the Business Services Group. In addition, the Commercial Credit Analyst will assist business relationship managers and portfolio managers in monitoring commercial loan portfolios. The Commercial Credit Analyst should have experience in commercial real estate, C&I, small business, asset-based lending, and more complex loans to include construction and development, tax credit analysis and SBA 504 lending. The Commercial Credit Analyst will perform assigned duties under the general supervision of the SVP/Chief Commercial Credit Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares, reviews, and analyzes the creditworthiness of commercial loan originations and loan renewals by compiling/spreading basic to complex credit packages.
  • If applicable, determine if a loan request meets the requirements for the SBA 504 loan program.
  • Evaluates financial statements, historical trends, projections, management performance, industry, cash flow, collateral analysis, and personal financials of guarantor(s).
  • Orders, reviews, and analyzes reports to include, but not limited to: credit, environmental, appraisal, property evaluations.
  • Performs various Business Services departmental functions to include, but not limited to loan covenant monitoring, risk rating, loan review, stress testing, and audit preparation. May assess the ongoing risk of current loans in the commercial portfolio, tracking of loan covenants, requirement for (additional) collateral and personal guarantees.
  • On real estate loans, reviews leases, prepare real estate cash flow worksheets and sensitivity analyses, global cash flow, personal financial information, rent roll, and financial covenants.
  • Works with the relationship managers to identify information needed from the borrower to complete the analysis and prepare the package for submission for loan approval or loan review.
  • Collaborates with the relationship manager on the preparation of the loan summary and recommendations for approval.
  • Communicates to management, in a timely manner, on all situations being handled, especially those that may result in a loss or compliance risk to the Credit Union.
  • Consistently provides quality service to members and co-workers.
  • Keeps all Credit Union transactions in strict confidence.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with employees at all levels.
  • Comply with all published enterprise level policies and procedures including, but not limited to, Risk Management policies.
  • Complete all required, ongoing enterprise level training including, but not limited to BSA, OFAC, and Information Security.
  • Report all Risk Management Policy violations in accordance with policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge:
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of financial products and services, preferably knowledge of business banking and commercial lending.
  • Extensive knowledge in C&I and CRE loan requirements, including identifying risk and mitigating factors related to conducting a thorough credit analysis for approval.
  • Thorough knowledge of project cash flow and global cash flow; and the cash flow cycles as they relate to C&I and CRE loan requests.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with SBA 504 loan program.
  • Knowledge and experience in underwriting historic tax credit projects.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong PC skills are required, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work with analytical tools to assess spreads, cash flow, projections, appraisals, environmental reports, and other loan related data.
  • Excellent written and communication skills required, including the ability to compose and edit professional written correspondence.
  • Strong analytical skills to perceive inconsistencies in the data submitted, and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
  • Ability to formulate and ask logical questions for the relationship manager or for the borrower.
  • Skill in attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to be flexible and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally interact with all levels of employees and members.
  • High degree of integrity and respect for confidentiality and privacy of member information.
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • College degree in business related major or accounting is preferred.
  • Experience working for a commercial bank or community bank, specifically in business or commercial lending.
Physical Requirements:
This job requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. This job requires infrequent lifting or carrying of objects up to 10 pounds.
