Job Description: Hotel Houseman and Shuttle Driver

Award-winning Comfort Suites hotel located in Tampa, Florida near the Florida State Fairgrounds & Seminole Hard Rock Casino has an opening for an experienced Houseman. This flagship hotel also ranks in the top 3 out of 178+ hotels on Trip Advisor in Tampa Bay, and is a Choice Hotels Gold award-winning hotel since 2015.

Scope of Position:

Reports To: General Manager, Housekeeping Manager

A hotel houseman has a wide variety of duties and responsibilities. Our houseman is:

• a shuttle driver - operating to and from the Hard Rock Casino and multiple local business accounts shuttling passengers on an as-needed basis. Drivers keep 100% of their tips. Candidates must have a clean driving record with no major violations or at-fault accidents; must pass MVR check with our insurance provider.

• cleans and maintains all public areas both inside and outside the hotel
• assists the housekeeping department by preparing checked out rooms for cleaning and at times, cleaning rooms if necessary
• performs light maintenance duties around the hotel
• keeps the hotel Market Place and Gift Shop clean and well-stocked
• responds to a variety of guest requests in a timely and friendly manner
• cleans, maintains, sets up, and tears down the meeting room as necessary

The houseman role assists every department by ensuring all hotel related guest needs are resolved and enables all team members to concentrate on their assigned tasks.

Hotel housemen are first and foremost in charge of creating a fresh and inviting atmosphere for guests by making sure all areas of the hotel are clean. They maintain the common areas of the hotel such as the lobby, hallways, and activity areas like the pool, fitness center, and laundry rooms. Hotel houseman may also be asked to clean guest rooms if necessary. Since it is one of their most critical duties, housemen should either have good cleaning skills when hired or be willing to learn.

A hotel houseman also helps with any kind of setups that take place in a hotel. The houseman is specifically assigned to assist with the meeting room. This person would look at the floor plan for the event and set up the tables and chairs beforehand and do any pre-cleaning as required such as vacuuming and wiping down chairs, tables, etc. Afterward, the houseman would also participate in tear down and clean up and if needed, set for the next meeting coming up.

Promoting a positive atmosphere to guests is a key role of a hotel houseman. During cleaning and setting up for events, a houseman has the potential of encountering many guests. Being friendly and giving a smile to each visitor is important. These little actions go a long way in making guests want to return to a hotel for future trips. Hotel Housemen should also ask patrons how their stays are going and if they need any assistance when passing them in the hotel common areas.

Housemen are expected to assist with guest requests including the delivery of requested items such as towels, coffee supplies, assistance with luggage as requested, etc. A houseman will be required to provide light cleaning services in response to guest requests. Additionally, a houseman will be required to clean any departing rooms after housekeeping has left for the day.

A hotel houseman also fills in where needed around the hotel. Houseman will be required to provide detailed, deep cleaning on guest rooms, light maintenance request regarding lights, AC units, bathroom plumbing, etc. They will be expected to participate in light maintenance activities as determined by management and ownership.

Shuttle Driver Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Welcomes each customer with a smile. Facilitates their access to and use of the establishment by offering information, direction and assistance.
• Treats all passengers in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
• Cleans public areas and property/grounds as indicated on daily check list
• Cleans, empty’s garbage in offices, laundry and public areas as needed.
• Assists front desk in responding to guest requests and complaints.
• Reports accidents, safety situations, property condition, or damage to the General Manager.

Skills Required:

• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Strong communication skills (both written and oral).
• Possess a valid driver’s license with specific class and endorsement based on the type of shuttle/van according to state requirements.
• Possess an official motor vehicle record that meets the recommended criteria outlined by our insurance carrier.
• Able to stand and move for up to 8 hours per shift.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a courteous manner with guests and co-workers
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
