**Position Overview: **The General Machinist is responsible for setting up and running both conventional and CNC machines and machining centers to fabricate metal and nonmetallic components. This role will also work in our welding machine cell and welding knowledge and ability is necessary.

**Location: **Charlotte, North Carolina

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities: **

  • Examining blueprints, drawings, instructions, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of final product, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Picking, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or inputting commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Initiating and watching machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusting machine controls or control media as needed.
  • Verifying conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Manually operating machinery that requires moving and relocating tailstack on lathes performed several times a day as required.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

**Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities: **

  • Capability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Capacity to write routine reports and correspondence. Capacity to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Capability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, employing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Capability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

**Required Qualifications: **

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Work Requirements: **

Employees are not required to lift any certain amount of weight. Employees have access to lifting devices for any weight that is not comfortable to lift. (Hoist, forklift, additional help on request)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud from milling, drilling and metal turning.
