Job Summary:

Set up and operate CNC lathe/mill and tools in a highly efficient manner. Operate one or more machines to meet production and quality standards with maximum productivity.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Set up and operate standard lathe and CNC machine tools.

2. Read and understand blueprints and written specifications.

3. Possess knowledge and ability to use shop mathematics.

4. Skillfully use all machinist’s hand tools and measuring instruments.

5. Shape metal bars, forgings, and castings to precise dimensions and finishes.

Job Specifications:

  • Mazak experience a plus but not required.
  • Be familiar with the various metals, speed, and feeds to be used in machining.
  • Be able to lift 5 to 60 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Reach, bend over, or twist to insure a part is secure in the machine, measure and/or inspect work, change tools, set up machinery, and load/unload the part from the machine.
  • Stand 40 to 60% of the shift to load, unload, and inspect parts and visually observe machine functions.
  • Walk around the plant to change machines, get blueprints, retrieve parts, etc.
  • See, read, and write in order to comprehend safety warnings and do necessary paperwork.
  • Be able to learn and have a long-term memory for machine controls, machine functions, crane controls and functions, using measuring instruments, reading blueprints/symbols, etc.
  • Be able to get up to speed with production requirements quickly.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are important to maintain manufacturing schedules.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • 2 years’ Lathe/Mill experience working in a Manufacturing environment required
  • Read and understand CNC programs (G-code and/or Mazatrol)
  • Pass Basic Shop Math Test and Basic Blueprint at interview
  • High school diploma or GED required

Physical / Environmental Conditions:

Daily exposure to shop conditions, which are variable depending on the task assigned, but are generally dirty. Is subject to shop noise. Involves extensive standing and walking. Skin and eyes are subject to drying and irritating fumes, vapors and solutions controlled to OSHA standards. Works indoors, with sometimes dusty or confining work areas when in the shop/lab.
