Job description

The role of the Machinist is to convert CAD data into CAM programs, setup the machines, and complete part production. Quality part fabrication is the main responsibility of the Machinist to produce great parts the first time to design specifications. The role of machining internally is key to our vertically integrated capabilities and delivering custom built equipment on short lead times for our customers as a competitive advantage.


Responsibilities:

  • Translate product CAD into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
  • Communicate with engineers and peers about the programs.
  • Check completed programs by running simulations or tests.
  • Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency.
  • Reviews tooling time for the team to increase efficiency.
  • Complies with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Overtime or changes in normal shift may be necessary based on customer orders including weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • May perform part inspections for quality assurance, training, or performance evaluations reasons.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • At least 2 years experience with 3 Axis CNC and manual mills.
  • Experience with Hurco machines preferred.
  • Experience using CAM programs preferably HSM Works program.
  • Good math skills, especially algebra, trigonometry and physics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively with little or no supervision.
  • Must have the ability to write and read complex spreadsheets.
  • Must have the ability to read drawings.
  • Knowledge of Jigs, fixtures, & tooling experience is a plus.

Operations Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand and work for extended periods of time.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to move around in a factory environment sometimes in tight spaces in and around equipment.
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds periodically.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may act as a trainer and mentor for others in the company to grow functional knowledge.
