A&F IT is a unit under the Executive Office for Administration & Finance (A&F) and is overseen by the A&F IT Secretariat Chief Information Officer (A&F SCIO). A&F IT is comprised of over 200 employees working on IT systems and applications for 22 various A&F agencies, to include the Department of Revenue (DOR) which manages Commonwealth taxes and child support.


The DOR IT Support Bureau is a unit under A&F IT that supports all of the IT applications (internal and external) to DOR (e.g., tax administration, child support enforcement, local services, underground storage tank).


The DOR IT Support Bureau is seeking a technically skilled Cloud Engineer who will join a team that is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining DOR’s cloud infrastructure and platforms, as well as managing systems that secure DOR’s on-premise applications. This position will require a deep understanding of a broad range of cloud technologies, particularly the AWS ecosphere.


The Cloud Engineer will be expected to participate in all phases of on-premise to cloud migrations, from inception to design to implementation to production support. The Cloud Engineer will create a well-informed cloud strategy and manage the adaption process; regularly evaluate cloud applications, hardware and software; and develop and organize cloud systems. The Cloud Engineer will work closely with IT security to monitor the company's cloud privacy; respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner; offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques including bulk application transfers into the cloud; and identify the top cloud engineering solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the company.


The Cloud Engineer will report directly to the Cloud Engineering/Security Lead and have no direct reports.


Responsibilities

The Cloud Engineer will:

  • Participate in the design and implementation of on-premise-to-cloud migrations.
  • Provide day-to-day support of DOR’s cloud environment.
  • Design and implement security controls to protect DOR cloud assets.
  • Develop and maintain cloud solutions in accordance with best practices.
  • Regularly evaluate cloud applications, hardware and software.
  • Develop and organize cloud systems.
  • Work closely with IT security to monitor the company's cloud privacy.
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques including bulk application transfers into the cloud.
  • Identify the top cloud engineering solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of DOR.
  • Identify, analyze and resolve infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues.
  • Regularly review existing systems and make recommendations for improvements.

Required Skills

  • Solid conceptual understanding of the variety of cloud technologies, such as PAAS, SAAS, IAAS, etc.
  • Experience implementing and supporting the following AWS cloud technologies: EC2, S3, IAM, Lambda, API Gateway, VPC, CloudTrail and CloudWatch.
  • Familiarity with implementing site-to-site VPNs.
  • Highly technical network troubleshooting skills.
  • Solid understanding of X.509 certificate management.
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Research skills and information gathering for various products.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as taking initiative to proactively resolve issues or raise concerns when needed.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps concepts.
  • Flexibility to work off-hours/weekends, as needed.
  • Proficiency with a scripting language such as Ansible.
  • Experience with Linux (RHEL7+).
  • Experience with Windows 2012+.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent job experience.
  • AWS Cloud proficiency, ideally AWS certification.
  • Experience designing, executing, and supporting IT cloud solutions.
