Counseling Works is a boutique private practice in Naperville, Frankfort, and Lemont, IL. We are looking for a fully licensed clinician who is collaborative, easy to connect with and adaptable to join our group practice. The ideal clinician will have experience in working with a variety of clients or a niche specialization, and have been in the mental health field for 3 or more years. Requirements include being licensed in the State of Illinois, preferably with private practice experience and/or supervisory experience.


Clinically, the therapist will be expected to perform individual, couple, or family therapy, including conducting diagnostic assessments to formulate DSM 5 diagnoses and complete treatment plans to support therapeutic interventions. The candidate must have experience working with individuals in 1:1 traditional sessions, and have utilized clinical interventions and diagnostic skills in their current or previous work experience.


In addition to the above, the ideal candidate would also bring expertise in a unique treatment modality, demographic, or specialty to Counseling Works. We are looking for a clinician who displays a passion for their work, and a desire to further their career and professional development. An ideal candidate would embrace learning and coaching opportunities, and work towards the growth of the clinical team as a whole.


Typically our clinicians are at full time status in an average of 3 months depending on availability. The candidate must be independent, driven, collaborative, organized, detail oriented, and able to enhance our positive-minded group of clinicians. The candidate will be employee status. Compensation is fee per client based, and paid out bi-monthly.

Requirements are:

  • Current State of Illinois license as a LCSW, LCPC, PsyD, LMFT
  • Willing to work weekends and evenings
  • Minimum 3+ years experience counseling our practice’s demographic
  • Minimum 2+ years experience providing supervision to provisionally-licensed therapists (preferred, not required)
  • Prior private practice experience is a plus but not required
  • The expectation is that you’d immediately be able to block out a minimum of 12-14 hours per week for at least two shifts at Counseling Works, during which time you would see clients and begin providing clinical supervision to some of our provisionally-licensed therapists
  • Proficient computer skills–we use Google Docs & TherapyNotes
  • Organized, professional, conscientious, timely and responsible.

Responsibilities are:

  • Provide individual and couples psychotherapy
  • Provide clinical supervision to provisionally-licensed therapists
  • Complete electronic notes, current treatment plans and obtain client payments in a timely fashion
  • Formulate DSM 5 diagnoses
  • Schedule & re-schedule clients for psychotherapy sessions with you
  • With support, manage client’s emergencies if/as they arise
  • Consult with other providers, psychiatrists and family members when appropriate
  • Continue to learn and grow to remain competent in serving the practice’s demographic and your caseload’s unique challenges
  • General tidiness of the office you are using and the common areas
