Clinical Informatics Coordinator

Primary function.

Responsible for promoting the maximum use of the clinical information system to support and enhance the practice of nursing and medicine, and ancillary departments. Participates in system installation, redesign, or enhancement activities, assists with system maintenance, staff education and training, and IT a liaison for clinical, IT, and ancillary departments. Actively participates on internal IT committees and provides leadership for achieving meaningful use goals and support of clinical quality measures of the organization.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Provides coordination of Clinical IT application between nursing, medical staff, IT, and clinical ancillary departments.

  • Serve as physician administrator of medical staff and provide documentation setup within the EMR to include template development, administration, and management.
  • Communicate regarding the development, maintenance and dissemination of patient care documentation tools, physician order sets and rules.
  • Serve as project leader for system implementation related to nursing clinical staff.
  • Implement and communicate approved system changes appropriately.
  • Participates in IT related committees to provide clinical knowledge and leadership support.
  • Serve as primary liaison between the organization and EMR vendor support.
  • Follow up on system situations forwarded to vendor to ensure resolution.
  • Maintain patient safety in all areas of job responsibilities.

2. Performs system training and education with all levels of clinical staff to ensure documentation and promoting interoperability data is maintained

  • Identify and address users learning needs.
  • Assist with the implementation of the HIT products making rounds, communicating with end-users to assure maximum utilization of the products.
  • Proactive user support of clinical information systems including but not limited to training and education.
  • Coordinate education /in-services related to implementation; develop super users for related projects.
  • Demonstrate the benefits of the new systems to clinicians.

3. Ensure compliance with regulations and or quality care practices.

  • Serve as a resource person to staff on clinical IT issues/projects focusing on documentation issues within the clinical setting.
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive documentation practices and workflow assuring that federal, state, and regulatory compliance is met.
  • Stays abreast of risk management issues relating to documentation systems which mitigate risk management concerns.
  • Provide active support of assigning appropriate levels of security related to users of EMR.
  • Responsible for promoting interoperability and quality measure reporting to all entities including CMS and Accountable Care Organization
  • Maintains current knowledge by monitoring appropriate industry standards and regulations as well as best practices

4. Ensure documentation meets established guidelines.

  • Identifies and addresses opportunities to maximize current system capabilities.
  • Develops and implements ongoing monitoring for use of current systems.

5. Performs evaluations of clinical information systems procedures and clinical use, with emphasis on improving patient care and clinical outcomes.

  • Monitors compliance with documentation and creates tools for management to use in their monitoring to ensure standards are being met.
  • Assists in Revenue Cycles activities as related to item master setup as it relates to clinical functionality within the EMR. Also, maintains charge templates, department level access, participates in work processes that enhance charge capture
  • Enhance revenue and appropriate utilization of resources by assisting in the coordination of clinical documentation, charge capture, and coding
  • Enhance patient engagement by acting as the primary liaison between the organization and the EMR vendor’s patient portal

6. Develops clinical documents needed for nursing and ancillary areas.

  • Collaborates with clinical and IT staff to determine document needs.
  • Follow system’s form development and updating processes.
  • Tests new forms prior to end user release.
  • Communicates with all departments following testing phase prior to implementation.

7. Serve as system administrator for organization’s primary EMR

  • Create and administer security rules and behavior controls based upon employee roles and job duties
  • Enable and disable users in the primary EHR based upon employment status as communicated by human resources
  • Assist in security audits of protected health information
  • Serve of administrator of the hospital’s EMR Learning Management System
  • Serve as administrator of appropriate clinically integrated 3rd party applications

8. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • BSN in Nursing with Missouri License or other licensed healthcare professional.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience.
  • Strong collaborative management style.
  • Effective communication skills and organization skills.
  • BLS required.

Pay: $37,352.14 - $97,105.31 per year
