The Clinical Coordinator is a Registered Nurse with recognized leadership abilities and sound clinical skills who will actively assist the Nursing Director/Manager in coordinating the day-to-day activities of the nursing unit. The Clinical Coordinator takes a leading role in activities such as nursing performance improvement, job performance evaluations, staffing, scheduling, and working with Directors and preceptors in the orientation and training of new employees


Essential Duties: • Follows policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to access online manuals. • Transfers learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the Nursing Process. • ASSESSMENT Appropriately completes Nursing Assessment upon patient admission and with change of condition. • DIAGNOSIS Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses. • PLAN Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions. Documents expected/projected patient outcomes. Reviews/Revises/Updates Plans of Care daily based on evaluation and interpretation of patient outcomes. • INTERVENTION Administers medication and IV therapy appropriately at prescribed intervals. Completes patient care procedures correctly per policy at prescribed intervals. Delegates tasks based on others’ scope of practice and competency. Acts as patient advocate. • DOCUMENTATION Documentation is complete and correct on all flow sheets and chart forms: Admission Assessment Pain scale assessment and reassessment before and after intervention Daily flow sheet Diabetes flow sheet Educational flow sheet Care Plan Risk Assessment & Reassessment upon Fall MAR Equipment & Supplies Ensures orders are transcribed and signed off prior to the end of the shift. • EDUCATION Provides patient/family education as needed Room/unit orientation Plan of Care Identifies knowledge deficits related to diagnoses and care Uses and provides MICROMEDEX information to patients and families. • TRANSFER & DISCHARGE Collaborates with Case Manager and/or physician regarding discharge planning. Ensures all transfer paperwork is completed. Ensures belongings are sent with patient. • COMMUNCATION Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team including patient and family: Physician Rounds Patient/family interactions Hand-Off reports Facility E-mail Student/New employee/Contract employee • ORGANIZATION • Manages time effectively. Able to organize and prioritize responsibilities. Takes meal breaks without incurring overtime. Completes shift on time. • OBSERVES REGULATORY AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: National Patient Safety Goals o Patient identifiers o Unapproved abbreviations o Universal Protocol (Procedural Time Out) o Hand-Off o Medication Reconciliation o Clinical Alarms o Other Hazardous waste management o Biohazard o Medication o Sharps HIPAA OSHA requirements (i.e. no food or drink in clinical areas) JCAHO – continuous survey readiness o Critical Values  Write Down  Read Back  Follow up o Telephone order  Appropriate  Documented  Signed, Timed and Dated  Stamped  Entered into unit log o Maintains safe practice in the work environment  Correct body mechanics  Electrical safety  Infection Control Procedures  Hand Washing o Ventricular assist devices Contacts significant other as allowed by patient. Completes debriefing, with patient if appropriate, after the incident. • HUMAN RESOURSCES Prepares and presents assigned evaluations as required. Performs counseling with staff as needed. Monitors attendance, overtime usage, and missed Kronos punches. Updates Kronos punches from previous shift/s. • CLINICAL SUPPORT Monitors staff performance against policy and standards. Assists staff with interventions and evaluations for care need. Ensures and assists staff with completion and revision of Plan of Care and Education. Serves as a resource for staff and provides direction for clinical follow-through. o Is liaison to the Medical Staff. o Effectively triages patients. o Facilitates MDP rounds. Participates in audits and other data collection projects and evaluates unit performance. • BUDGET Manages the daily staffing per budgeted unit hours per patient day (follows staffing grid). Flexes staff as needed for census fluctuations and changes in patient care needs. Ensures adequate unit supplies are maintained (without excess overstocking). Monitors equipment needs and repairs in collaboration with the director. • REGULATORY AGENCY REQUIREMENTS Oversees daily environment of care to ensure unit meets regulatory agency requirements Monitors staff practice and documentation to ensure regulatory agency requirements are met. • STAFFING Balances and publishes staff schedule Approves requested time off as appropriate, per policy, in collaboration with the director. Assigns patients based upon patient acuity and staff competence, and adjusts assignments as needed Reconciles PCSS with on-coming Clinical Coordinator. Provides break times for all staff. • LEADERSHIP Makes appropriate decisions and is able to provide rational explanation. Investigates issues and incidents and follows- up with director and others as needed. Ensures Occurrence Reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner. Bases decisions on potential impact to others and the organization. Listens, remains open-minded, and is approachable. Demonstrates collaborative behavior. Demonstrates effective problem solving skills. Follows chain of command. Manages conflict constructively. Ensures a clean, neat environment, and keeps up with necessary structural/cosmetic repairs, in collaboration with the director. • QUALITY MEASURES  Accurately identifies patients that fit Core Measure criteria  Completes Core Measure Documentation  Identifies and participates in data collection and process improvements related to Nurse Sensitive Quality Indicators • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT  Participates in professional hospital/nursing activities o Relief Charge Nurse o Nursing committees/councils o Hospital Teams o Unit Based Projects o Research Published peer review article • BONUS POINTS  Preceptor (5)  Professional Certification (5)  More than 8 Non-mandatory CEH (3)  USCUH Nurse Week Recognition (5)  Monthly Spirit Award Winner (1)  Public nursing recognition (3) • Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications: • Req Bachelor's degree Degree in Nursing (BSN) • Pref Master's degree Degree in Nursing (MSN) • Req 1 year One-year experience in an acute care setting (preferably immediately prior to application) Required Certifications: • Req Registered Nurse - RN (CA Board of Registered Nursing) Valid California Registered Nursing license. • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association • Req Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association *Required for Intensive Care, Step- down, Telemetry, and Evaluation and Treatment Clinic (ETC). • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only) • Pref Specialty Certification Specialty certification preferred. The hourly rate range for this position is $29.00 - $45.20.
