Position Title: Clinical Child Therapist

Supervisor: Executive Director/Clinical Supervisor

Position Description: The Therapist will focus on reducing systemic trauma to alleged sexually abused and/or physically abused children and their families. The Therapist’s primary goal is to respond to the emotional needs of the child abuse victims and their non-offending care givers.

Hours: Full-time

Salary: Negotiable based on experience

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Provide crisis intervention services as an immediate response to the urgent emotional needs of child crime victims to reduce heightened emotions to safe level.

2. Provide an evaluation of current coping mechanisms and if applicable provide the child with skills that are increasingly positive and effective to assist in coping with the stress of victimization.

3. Assist the victim in understanding the dynamics of victimization.

4. Help in the development of increased feelings of safety and heightened awareness of social support systems.

5. Assess the individualized trauma symptoms of the child victim, and in the development and implementation of self-determined intervention goals to reduce trauma symptoms, positively enhance self-esteem, and stabilize their lives.

6. Participate in monthly Case Review Team meetings.

7. Testify as clinical expert in court.

Qualifications:

  • LCSW, LPC, or Psychologist or other equivalent required to provide crisis counseling.
  • Prefer training/experience in evidence based practices regarding children who have experienced a trauma.
  • Minimum of three (3) years direct work experience working with abused children and their families.
  • Working knowledge of dynamics of child abuse.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement and the court systems as well as how to liaison with these systems.
  • Knowledge of the interdisciplinary team approach in investigation/assessment of child sexual abuse victims and families.
  • Familiarity with testifying in criminal and civil court systems when needed to support family.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with a team and independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage resource materials.
