PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The End of Life Solutions Leader enables the Owens Corning sustainability strategy by leading progress against the 2030 aspirational goals: avoiding the use of virgin raw materials, manufacturing products that have the least negative environmental impact, and ensuring materials used in our products and packaging remain in the economy indefinitely.

The position is accountable for end-of-life solutions for key products and materials created by Owens Corning and Owens Corning’s customers. This includes oversight of strategy and open innovation across the three businesses (Roofing, Composites and Insulation) and leadership of Circular Economy capabilities and portfolio. This leader builds, prioritizes and manages a portfolio of projects to achieve the Owens Corning 2030 aspirational goals at a global scale.

The position lays the foundation for the implementation of new business models to drive organizational success and customer solutions in the space. The successful candidate will have a strong mix of commercial acumen/business development, technical aptitude in hard sciences, and have a passion for leading Owens Corning to meet the needs of the present while leaving the world a better place for the future.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Drive Circular Economy Opportunities:

  • Advance a portfolio of circular solutions that span: shared platforms, resource recovery, products lifetime extension, and products as a service (continually monitoring disruptive threats and opportunities based on trends) focused on key Owens Corning products, materials and customer issues and opportunities.
  • Work closely with the business commercial teams and product management to create and execute on viable business models and commercialization strategies for mature and end-of-life products or materials.
  • Internally and externally promote the company’s sustainability agenda; influence and obtain support from industry, regulatory bodies, business/functional leaders and senior leaders for successful execution of the circular agenda.
  • Build a pipeline of open innovation through evaluating new technologies and areas for partnership – joint ventures, start-ups, academic partnerships all toward advancing circular agenda.
  • Execute on new business model opportunities from idea incubation, through pilot scale feasibility, and eventual full integration into divisional businesses or independent operations
  • Act as principle and accountable Owens Corning representative in key external partnerships and manage relationships, commercial negotiations, supply chain, legal, and all necessary considerations to align with internal business unit strategies and long range planning
  • Work closely with internal Circular Economy team to align end-of-life program with manufacturing technology capabilities and zero waste to landfill initiatives to fully leverage technology platforms, partnerships, and internal resources


Create cross-functional, cross-business alignment

  • Build a strong connection with corporate development and business leaders, including up to executive committee level, and communicate why investing time and resources in priority Circular initiatives is in their best interest.
  • Drive a dedicated partnership between R&D, Advanced Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Regulatory Compliance to unlock the full potential of the new business model solutions for product-end-of-life.
  • Provide views, interpretations and recommendations on the current portfolio mix and help OC leaders think through tough questions regarding sustainability goals as an aspect to successfully conduct business.
  • Utilize internal and external toolkits to build effective project management systems driving accountability, teamwork and execution across key functions in the OC Circular Economy roadmap.


Ensure timely, successful, measurable advancement of Circular Economy initiatives

  • Track and report on Circular metrics and business impact on a regular basis. This includes:
    • Waste of products or materials diverted, and OC competitive advantage obtained therein.
    • Benchmarked emerging recycling technologies and companies.
    • Achieved external partnerships in high interest technology areas. Could include customers themselves.
    • Execution of Circular product end-of-life solutions: focused on Wind Blades, Shingles and Insulation site waste.
    • Ensure risk profile of each product solution is accurately captured and communicated to commercial partners across enterprise.
    • Any capital investment ROI as an elimination of waste, products and materials to landfill.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


EXPERIENCE
:

  • Senior Commercial or Technology Innovation Leadership Experience: Experience leading commercial and/or technology innovation. Deep understanding of significant aspects of business models, technologies and regulations relevant for the industry. Demonstrated success in defining a culture of innovation and driving customer value through new revenue sources. MS./MBA/Ph.D. with 7+ years of operational or equivalent experience.
  • Global Experience and Mindset: A background supporting a company with operations around the world and comfort operating across cultures.
  • Strategic Business Partnership: A business-oriented approach to one’s work and a customer centric orientation with sound judgement. Effective collaborator that creatively thinks through how best to accomplish business goals through product, process and service solutions.
  • People Leadership: A strong people leader with high integrity who has experience effectively managing teams , while also having an interest and ability to serve as a broader enterprise leader. An individual who can lead change effectively and can inspire others to participate in the company’s growth journey.
  • Travel required upto 20% of the time. Travel is generally scheduled in advance with notice.
