Job Title: Certified Sterile Processing Technician

Department: Sterile Processing

Reports To: Manager of Sterile Processing

Job Summary: Works to prepare, sterilize, install, assemble, or clean all surgical or healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures. The sterile processing technician ensures equipment, instruments, and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infections.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Wear appropriate PPE (Personal protective equipment).
  • Cleans all work surfaces prior to processing and cleans up work area throughout the day and at end of day.
  • Restocks supplies.
  • Completes washer and sonic tests.
  • Readies sterilizers, performs warm up, and Bowie dick test (?) at the start of the day.
  • Performs equipment cleaning, or disinfecting at the scheduled times.
  • Records temperatures and humidity.
  • Fill surgical case carts with needed items.
  • Rotate instruments and put away sterile sets.
  • Empty the cart wash and send carts to appropriate areas.
  • Checks all instruments for quality and quantity.
  • Assembles instruments and wraps appropriately for sterilization.
  • Follows all safety procedures and follows IFU (instructions for use).
  • Is knowledgeable of and operates equipment.
  • Loads the sterilizer in a manner conducive to the best sterilization process, and as they are ready for sterilization.
  • Completes the appropriate biological testing for sterilizers.
  • Documents appropriately.
  • Completes 10 CEU credits annually.
  • Fulfills all full-time or part-time requirements for hours worked for which hired (FT (1.0) - 37.5; PT (0.8) - 30.0, etc)
  • Fulfills all weekday or weekend call assignments as required

Surgicare

  • Can open and close department independently.
  • Able to process and sterilize eye instruments.
  • Able to prioritize work flow as days needs change.
  • Knowledge of process for requesting instrumentation from main campus or other source.


Endoscopy

  • Can open and close department independently.
  • Know start up process on machines.
  • Able to process all flexible scopes correctly following IFU.
  • Competent in the use of scope processors.
  • All shifts restock area.
  • Document appropriately.
  • Follows the extended manual cleaning/soaking policy.


Requirements
:

Education -. Must attain and maintains annual certification.

Experience - Minimum one year experience.

Licensure - Certification required from CBSPD or IAHCSMM

Physical Requirements - Must be able to left 25lbs
