Position Summary

The Medical Assistant/Technician is responsible for technical skills encompassing patient care and related tasks under the direction of a Doctor, Registered Professional Nurse, or a Licensed Practical Nurse and technicians. The Medical Assistant/Technician works closely with patients and medical staff to ensure proper testing, documentation, coding of charges and use of equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Delivering direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established procedures
  • Documenting history; recording and reporting pertinent observations and patient reactions to staff, as appropriate; documenting procedures and ensuring follow up on results Using screening procedures, including medical history review, and observing and documenting patient vital signs as required Maintaining quality results by running standards and controls
  • Training other technicians or other workers for coverage purposes
  • Assisting with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a talent for customer service
  • Must be efficient with strong attention to detail
  • Must have strong customer support orientation (for internal/external customers), demonstrated professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidential information
  • Must have strong skills in organization and planning, demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment and problem solving
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Certified Medical Assistant Certificate, Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education required
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
  • Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish, and the ability to translate exam instructions given by technician, including medical terminology.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to critically think
  • Knowledge of quality control, ordering supplies, being cost effective, and avoiding unnecessary expenses.
  • Ability to exercise manual dexterity, control precision and arm-hand steadiness accurately
  • Ability to be empathetic with patients; ability to maintain confidentiality

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to some hazards such as radiation, bodily fluids that may contain disease, and fumes from chemicals.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.50 - $16.50 per hour
