The Community College of Vermont seeks applicants for a part-time faculty position to teach Introductory Robotics and Automation for an upcoming semester in the Rutland CCV Center.

Every year Community College of Vermont employs nearly 800 part-time faculty to teach its courses at 12 locations statewide and online, and we are always looking for enthusiastic, knowledgeable teachers. All faculty work part-time with a maximum of three courses each semester.

Course Description:

The course introduces students to the role of robotics in advanced manufacturing and industrial automation. Students learn foundational skills necessary to program, operate, and troubleshoot industrial robotics. Topics include standards of robotic workplace safety, creating and testing programs, recording and editing positions, backup and restoration of programs, and tooling. Recommended prior learning: MEC-1310 or one year of manufacturing experience.

Essential Objectives:

1. Explore the historical development of automation in manufacturing.
2. Identify various applications of robotics in advanced manufacturing including common job applications and emerging technologies and applications.
3. Describe safety regulations and standards and analyze safety hazards related to working with industrial robotics including safety zones, pinch points, robot operation modes, and safety devices.
4. Distinguish robot components and use a teach pendant to navigate controller software.
5. Demonstrate safe operation of a robot including powering on, jogging in various frames, and operating in automatic mode.
6. Apply knowledge of positional information, motion types, and frames to create, modify, and execute motion programs as well as manipulating object.
7. Demonstrate troubleshooting skills including recovery from common program and robot faults.
8. Demonstrate the following skills:
1. successfully backup and restore programs and files.
2. master a robot and apply it to the Dual Check Safety (DCS) system.
3. set axis limits on the robot’s motion.
4. configure I/O and monitor its status.

Preferred credential/experience:

Master's degree required.
