In close consultation with the Program Manager of the CAT Grant, the CAT Intake Specialist will manage ongoing strategic communications between prospective consumers and their families, as well as school counselors, advisors and other community partners who are critical to the CAT Admissions process. They will be responsible for identifying and managing an applicant pool and for reviewing any materials submitted by the applicant for the purpose of admitting into the CAT program.

Primary Function:

  • Expected to communicate with prospective candidates and community partners, primarily by in-person appointments, telephone, email, texting, social media sites, and video/virtual chat on the intake process and opportunities within the CAT program.
  • They are also expected to provide support toward connecting applicants and their families to CAT services and will provide assistance toward removing barriers to accessing services
  • The CAT Intake Specialist reports to the Program Manager of the CAT. They serve as an advocate ensuring that academic development related functions of the department achieve expected outcomes.


Essential CAT Intake Specialist Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


  • Support the mission statement of the Center for Adult Transition {CAT}
  • Primarily responsible for marketing and recruitment services and outreach activities with area high schools, community agencies and organizations to identify significant numbers of consumers that meet the CAT application guidelines and regulations.
  • Visits middle schools and high schools to speak to groups and individual potential consumers and meets with school counselors and administrators to promote outreach activities.
  • Assists interested applicants and their families with accessing CAT services.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining community connections.
  • Represents the college and the CAT in the community on matters pertaining to programs and services.
  • Develop knowledge of federal and state regulations and local demographic and employment trends to determine impact on enrollment.
  • Recommend program and policy changes, which will increase applicant, yield and improve the public image of the CAT within our internal and external communities.
  • Responsible for workshops, presentations, and other College and community events involving the CAT
  • Manages confidential information in accordance with FERPA, HIPPA, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 including changes made by the ADA and its Amendment Act of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Assist with assessment efforts by distributing and collecting outcomes data for consumer assessment and program evaluation.
  • Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the department; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations, as appropriate to CITA
  • Participate fully in the college management system and use assigned resources effectively.
  • Assist the CAT Program Manager in development and implementation of selected programs and activities that promote participant success.
  • Responsible for submitting monthly, quarterly, annual reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, social work, or related field.
  • A minimum of three years demonstrated proficiency in working with Developmentally Disabled young adults and their families.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in recruitment and program dissemination.
