Mission: The scaleLIT (formerly Chicago Citywide Literacy Coalition (CCLC)) helps Chicago’s adult education organizations secure resources and training so that underserved adult learners can become economically successful.
Join us in helping connect individuals to education and training. ScaleLIT’s Career Pathways Navigator assists community residents in accessing job training and education, and employment through outreach events, orientations, and a regular presence in American Job Center high traffic areas.
Job Summary
The Navigator will receive, send, and track referrals to partner organizations so that individuals will be aware of and utilize workforce and adult education services. This full-time staff position will be housed at the American Job Center will refer interested individuals to training providers that best match their career pathways needs in terms of program offered, location and schedule.
This national award-winning model is an innovative approach to service delivery. The Navigators will work collaboratively with the Continuum of Care and American Job Center partners to develop pathways for adults seeking career training in a high demand sectors or in need of adult education services to obtain GED, learn English or digital literacy skills, become a citizen, or would like to improve numeracy and literacy skills to advance in a career. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of adult education, workforce development, and social services., as well as a general understanding of the social and supportive services that are available in the area.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Outreach, intake and orientation:
- Receive and send referrals to appropriate partners in a timely manner.
- Conduct initial assessments and document client engagement.
- Track referrals through 30, 60, 90 days.
- Conduct regular outreach and orientation activities.
- Provide digital literacy assessments and instruction.
- Assist individuals in assessing their current skills and support service needs.
- Interpret test results for appropriate referrals.
- Assist individuals in accessing training that leads to attainment of industry-recognized credentials, diplomas, and degrees through stackable credentials.
Program Coordination and referrals:
- Form strong relationships with the partners to ensure accurate and timely referrals.
- In collaboration with core partners, determine metrics and manage data for evaluation of the referral system.
- Work collaboratively with Supervisor and partners to identify additional resources to support the development of local career pathways.
- Develop a timely reporting system to communicate outcomes to the partners.
- Proctor Digital Literacy assessments and work with individuals to complete appropriate modules and pass assessments.
- Other duties as assigned by scaleLIT.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 3 years experience in adult education, career counseling, human services, or related field.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Familiarity with adult literacy services (ABE, ESOL, GED, NEDP, etc.), providers in the region. Familiarity with the TABE, BEST and other assessments related to literacy, career exploration, job training, and higher education.
- Must value diversity.
- Understanding of the Housing/homelessness sector.
- Understanding of needs and resources for individuals with disabilities.
- Experience in counseling, coaching, or advising in group sessions.
Required Skills:
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, planning, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to work independently, plan meetings, maintain your own schedule.
- Ability to travel among the partners and other stakeholders.
- Ability to read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.
- Technical aptitude to use a of variety of technology and software applications for multiple purposes.
Salary:
$48,000 - $50,000 Per Year
