Overview:
Presbyterian is hiring a Cardiology Testing Tech for the Heart Group at Presbyterian Hospital. The cardio testing tech perform procedures with completed and documented competency, within scope of certification and PHS policy and under the direct supervision of the provider. These procedures include performing treadmill exercise tolerance tests, stress echocardiograms, and 6-minute walk tests. Ensures patient safety through use of procedure protocols and policies. Start to cross train in nuclear
medicine stress testing and learn to hone their skills and techniques to identify abnormalities in ECG tracings. May need to provide coverage to other departments as necessary

Qualifications:
Experience:
1 year of cardiology experience
Current BLS certification, must be obtained in 90 days if not current
Annual Basic Arrhythmia Class must pass yearly.
Pass Basic Arrhythmia Challenge Test within 9 months of hire date.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Responsibilities:
Perform examinations recognizing a variety of different types of dysrhythmias and tailor the stress exam based on the type of issues, clinical signs, and symptoms to ensure completion of the performed exam.
  • Accurately completes charges for all exams performed in the EHR system as well as initiate and assign the preliminary report in the merge software program.

Review patient history to determine appropriate method of testing. Obtain and document routine vital signs.

Perform treadmill exercise tolerance, stress echocardiograms and nuclear stress tests.

Requires detailed knowledge of cardiac anatomy, pathophysiology and principles of cardiac stress testing during the exam to determine the need to for acquiring any additional testing.

Identify abnormalities during testing, determine corrective actions, and elevate to appropriate provider during an emergency.
Performing Electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG) and bring abnormal findings to cardiologist attention when needed.

Indirect Care Activities: Responsible for Kanban system for stocking exam rooms and procedure room. Maintains a clean, organized, safe, well-stocked environment, and follows infection control and regulatory standards.

Monitors testing schedule to identify no show for rescheduling by the schedulers through epic. Places reminder calls to patients

Informs the supervising physician of any schedule changes

Communication: Communicates pertinent patient data to provider, keeping him/her informed of issues and concerns regarding patients or the environment.

Quality Improvement: Works collaboratively with care team to meet process improvement goals and clinical quality metrics.

Visit Navigation: Prepares patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines, collecting appropriate and accurate.

Equipment and Procedures: Uses patient care equipment and performs patient procedures in a safe, competent manner according to defined standards of practice.

Operate Q-Stress equipment, sphygmomanometer, Epic and Merge application with proficiency.

Message Management / Test Result Notification: Responsible for taking patient calls and initiating Telephone Encounter(s) for the providers and care team. Ensures accurate, timely response to and documentation of patient calls, message requests, and notification of test results.

Scheduling, prior authorizations, and referral management.
