JOB INFORMATION This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Full-time and (1) Part-time position working

3.75 hours & 8 hours per day, 9 months per year.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Principal and the Lead Campus
Security Officer, assists the high school staff, or staff at other sites in maintaining campus security against external intrusion; assists in maintaining acceptable student conduct; and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are assigned to the High School and may be gender specific.
Incumbents are assigned routine and non-routine duties related to the control of students and the security of the site. They will generally perform their duties during school hours, but may also be required to perform duties after school hours, on weekends, and during school breaks. Sometimes, due to their assignment (nights, weekends, etc.), they will have limited supervisory contact, and limited backup.

Incumbents must use good judgment in the application of Federal and State laws,
District policies and school regulations. Good judgment is essential not only for the purposes of good public relations, but for the incumbent's safety. Campus Security
Officers are not authorized to carry weapons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High School graduation or equivalent; one year of experience in security work or law enforcement . Additional education or experience in the area of dealing with individual and group behavior, particularly contemporary youth behavior or Police Academy or Military Police training is desirable. Any other combination of training and/or experience that could provide the desired knowledge and abilities may be considered.

REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATES Must possess and maintain a current First Aid and CPR certificate issued from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; must obtain, within 120 days of employment, a CPI Certificate; thereafter, must maintain a valid certificate.

Certificate of completion (Penal Code 832.2), from an approved School Security
Training class that is authorized and recognized by the state of California as meeting SB1626 and ED. CODE 38001.5 must be submitted with your application.

A valid Class C California Driver License.

Other: An automobile to be used in the course of work that meets the current legal requirements for vehicle operation in the state of California. A current DMV driving report is required at the time of application. Must show proof of insurance upon employment and must maintain insurance coverage during employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Supervises activities occurring on the campus grounds, the periphery of the campus and in the parking lots before and after school; patrols halls, campus buildings and restrooms during class hours to prevent improper or illegal activities; reports any campus problems; assists staff in maintaining order; assists staff in supervising students during authorized school activities, including social events, programs, and athletic events; prevents unauthorized student departures from school grounds during breaks and class time; deals with unruly individuals on

MONROVIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT PERSONNEL COMMISSION campus; communicates with and encourages students to behave appropriately; patrols buildings and grounds to guard against theft or vandalism; observes, controls, and reports any loss, damage or misuse of school property or equipment; makes preliminary investigation of alleged law violations; works closely with school and law enforcement authorities in potential or alleged violations; monitors, locks and unlocks campus gates; and prevents unauthorized persons from loitering near, or entering the campus.

OTHER TYPICAL DUTIES
May supervise non-classroom and non-academic activities of problem students; may assist in transporting students who are ill to their homes; and works with students as needed.

ABILITY TO Learn and interpret specific rules, laws and policies related to student behavior and apply them with good judgment; perform first aid and CPR; deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, poise and firmness; detect and prevent criminal activity; think and act quickly in emergencies; suppress student disturbances; keep accurate records and submit clear and concise reports; follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, students and parents; and perform physical tasks required in campus supervision.

KNOWLEDGE OF CPR and first aid; the methods of individual and group supervision; group law enforcement procedures; and the attitudes and behaviors of high school students.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Indoor and outdoor environment.

PHYSICAL ABILITY This position is physical in nature. It requires the incumbent to be physically fit and healthy. This position is one that requires constant standing and walking along with occasional running. It requires the use of arms and hands to break up altercations, for restraint, to write reports and use radio communication. It is necessary for the incumbent to have the ability to see and hear.

SELECTION PROCEDURE Open to employees and the public resulting in one integrated eligibility list (dual certification). Applicants who meet the education and experience requirements as outlined above will be asked to participate in the examination process. Applicants who pass all parts of the examination will be placed on the eligibility list in order of score. Promotional candidates will receive additional five points (promotional credit). The eligibility list will be used to fill vacancies for a period of six months.

EXAMINATION Applications will be screened for completeness, relevant training and/or experience. The first phase of the examination process will consist of a written exam. For those applicants participating in both written exam and oral interview, each part will be weighted 50%. Applicants will be tested on their knowledge of dealing effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, poise and firmness.
Detect and prevent criminal activity; think and act quickly in emergencies; suppress student disturbances; keep accurate records and submit clear and concise reports.
Follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, students and parents; and perform physical tasks required in campus supervision. Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; and applicable district policies and objectives.

APPEAL OF REJECTION

EXAMINATIONS - PROTEST PROCEDURES

If a candidate wishes to protest any part of an examination, the protest must be in writing to the Personnel Administrator no later than five (5) working days after the candidate receives notification of the results of the examination. The protest should provide a thorough explanation to support the reason of protest.

VETERANS’ PREFERENCE POINTS

Veterans’ preference points shall be added to the final passing score in open and promotional examinations for entry level positions. Veterans, except disabled veterans, shall have an additional five points added and disabled veterans shall have an additional ten points added. A disabled veteran is an individual classified by the U.S. Veteran's Administration to be ten percent or more disabled as a result of service in the Armed Forces of the United States. In order to obtain credit, at least 30 days of active service during war or qualifying armed conflict is required. A copy of the DD214 is required prior to the date of the examination.

BEFORE EMPLOYMENT YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

1 Take an oath or affirmation of allegiance;

2 Obtain a negative TB examination; and,

3. Have fingerprints taken, processed and cleared by the Department of Justice. Some positions may require additional background clearance.
