Position: Buyer

Location: Blue Anchor, NJ

Position Overview: Reporting to the Materials Manager, the Buyer is responsible for the timely procurement of certain assigned commodities as directed considering factors of cost, delivery, quality requirements and conformance to applicable specifications. This position is responsible for communicating with vendors on providing quality materials at competitive prices, delivered per our schedule and ensuring on time delivery to our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret reports generated by our ERP system (Infor Visual Manufacturing) to generate and place purchase orders for required purchased parts with suppliers and internal orders for parts that are manufactured on site.
  • Procure goods and services with close interface with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Assurance.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Engineering to perform vendor source inspections in the development of new vendors and in support of vendor corrective actions.
  • Evaluate supplier bids to validate compliance with the bid and proposal requests.
  • Follow-up with suppliers to ensure delivery of parts and materials in accordance with our production schedule requirements.
  • Analyze and report issues to the Materials Manager that could impact the production schedule.
  • Generate new part numbers (and remove obsolete) using our ERP system as needed.
  • Visit and evaluate new suppliers’ capabilities.
  • Solicit bid proposals, negotiate price, and administer purchase orders.
  • Maintain technical communications between suppliers and KSBI personnel.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by the purchasing manager.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and proven negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Word & Excel).
  • AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks experience is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop working relationships with suppliers.
  • Ability to handle pressure associated with deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain or related technical field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a purchasing environment.
  • 1+ years of buying experience of machined parts, sheet metal parts and welded assemblies.
  • Proven experience in the sourcing process and methodologies.
  • Machining background and/or experience in a manufacturing setting.
