COVID 19 highlighted the lack of economic opportunity for the lower income individuals in the City of Willcox. There are many in the community who don’t have access to affordable housing, have low wage jobs, and lack a significant quality of life. Economic diversification and business development is a pathway out of poverty for many Willcox residents. The VISTA member will work with City staff and departments to create an inclusive, balanced, approach, as well as a workforce development program focused on the local Hispanic community. Ultimately, the Economic Development Department has a great opportunity to make an impact in the City of Willcox. The VISTA will build capacity in year three in the objectives and activities outlined below. During the year as a VISTA with the City of Willcox, a VISTA can expect to build relationships, develop new programs, and partner with internal stakeholders.The Alliance VISTA team offers monthly professional development, a state-wide network of support, and beauty that can only be found in rural Arizona. This is a hybrid work schedule for a candidate that resides in Arizona. Relocation assistance provided.

Tasks include: 1)Build sustainable, long-term partnerships to create a sustainable business plan with City partners including Visitor Center, Marketing and Tourism Commission, Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture. 2)Market business strategies to promote economic opportunity and grow job opportunities for the City. 3)Research and develop a workforce development program aimed at the Hispanic residents in the Community. 4)Ensure there is a sustainable transfer of knowledge, products, and relationships to the appropriate member/volunteer/staff who will be picking up elements of your project after your service year.

This is an AmeriCorps National Service position. This service opportunity is one year, full-time, and offers a stipend. The service opportunity includes: Living Allowance, Relocation Allowance, End of Service Award, Healthcare Benefit, Non-Competitive Eligibility, and Professional Development training. The position is located with City of Willcox, Economic Development Department. It requires relocation to Willcox, AZ.
