The Business Development Representative will be a key member of a marketing team responsible for the analysis, planning, and execution of demand generation strategies and campaigns. The Representative will work in collaboration with key stakeholders in Marketing and Sales. In this role, you will leverage a wide range of marketing collateral, including owned media and webinars, to help deliver campaigns across channels, including paid search, organic and paid social, and more. This activity will aim to increase awareness, drive intent, and fill the sales pipeline with prospective direct accounts for our line of student insurance products, including fully insured and self-funded student health insurance plans, inbound global, intercollegiate sports, and additional participant accident products.
This is an exciting position and the first of its kind on a marketing team laser-focused on driving revenue across the business. This role will carry with it both base and commission-driven salary. The role can best be described in three parts, all equal to success
In this role, you will…
Pre-Sale Demand Generation

  • Partner with the creative and sales teams to execute campaigns to meet pipeline and revenue goals through various inbound and outbound channels from email and events to paid, social, and search
  • Drive marketing and sales-qualified contacts and accounts down the funnel and into sales pipeline
  • Deliver ongoing reporting along with monthly, quarterly and annual results to drive optimization efforts and best practices
  • Work with Marketing and Sales leadership to contextualize demand for student insurance lines
  • Communicate with key stakeholders to identify KPMs to ensure shared view of data needs to help drive optimal revenue performance at each stage of the funnel
  • Document all activity in CRM/Marketing Automation Platform
  • Work from and continue to cultivate a list of prospect schools to target with account-based and direct marketing methods
  • Travel to clients, conferences, Wellfleet Office as needed

Quoting & Sales

  • Responsible for meeting/exceeding annual sales goals
  • Responsible for submitting and presenting new business opportunities effectively and efficiently to Underwriting team for review
  • Produce and present proposals to client prospects working with marketing and sales teams
  • Active participation in annual sales meeting/presentation as well as annual and mid-year (twice yearly) reviews
  • Work closely with other business development team members when opportunities arise

Client Service & Retention

  • Manage a book of business acquired through direct marketing and sales, providing support of sold clients, working with the Sales Operations and Account Management Teams
  • Renew school accounts by working with underwriting team to produce renewals for direct accounts
  • Attend college and university visits including: orientation, health fairs and renewal meetings for owned accounts
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance industry, regulations and competitor products and services
  • Perform other duties as assigned

We are looking for candidates with…

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or related field or 1-3 years’ experience in Sales with knowledge of the healthcare industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with marketing automation software or willingness and ability to learn
  • Ability to deliver results in a fluid and, at times, complex environment, or willingness to learn
  • Understanding of modern digital marketing tools, demand generation and advertising strategies or a willingness to learn
  • Effective at building relationships with key stakeholders, including internal partners and external clients, both prospective and in-force
  • Knowledge and experience in the Student Health Insurance market
  • Working understanding of underwriting rating methodology along with knowledge of the experience of accounts and prospects, or willingness to learn
  • Willingness to gain understanding of legal filing process for plan designs
  • Prior experience with Student Health Insurance and/or Accident and Health Insurance desired
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively present information, presentations, reports and benefit plans in a professional manner
  • Possess and maintain a valid Accident and Health Producer license, or obtain within 6 months of hire
