POSITION OVERVIEW

The First Baptist Church of Glenarden has a need for an exceptional part-time (weekend and evening) building services technician to support our Facilities Department. The FBCG Facilities Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all FBCG locations. We are committed to a spirit of excellence with a desire to serve God’s people with the warmth of hospitality in all we do. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of general maintenance tasks and repair of buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds at all FBCG locations.

This is a weekend and evening position. Must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays and evenings.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs a variety of basic routine maintenance duties and repairs, as directed by Maintenance Supervisor, Assistant Building Manager, or Building Manager.
  • Perform intermediate level repairs for one or more of these disciplines: painting, plumbing or HVAC
  • Operate a variety of equipment including, hand tools, saws, power tools, power lifts, and lawn equipment
  • Perform minor repair and maintenance of door hardware.
  • Assist in the relocation of office furniture, make adjustments & repairs to desks, chairs files, and other office furniture.
  • Perform inspections of the building, campus roads and grounds for routine maintenance.
  • Check parking lot light time clocks to ensure that they are timed for the season.
  • Perform errands and driving assignments in support of FBCG mission support as needed.
  • Assist in the routine building maintenance and repairs and any other related duties for all properties as assigned within a team-oriented environment.
  • Serve as the Building Manager’s designee and point of contact for facility operations and maintenance related activities or issues in the absence of the Building Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be saved, have a servant’s heart, and be a member, in good standing or willing to join and become a member in good standing of FBCG.
  • Must be able to submit to authorities as defined by the Pastor.
  • Must possess a gracious, Christ-like demeanor in demanding situations.
  • Must have an understanding and appreciation for the ministry and the mission of FBCG.
  • Must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays and evenings.
  • Ability to communicate with others and maintain a Christ-like spirit at all times.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent (GED). Property Management Certification or College degree preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 2-4 years of experience in maintenance, construction or property management.
  • Building Operations and Maintenance Training Certificates of Completion, desired.
  • Technical School HVAC Certificates, preferred.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to handle difficult customers with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the requirements of the church’s insurance in order to be able to operate an FBCG vehicle.
  • Intermediate Management Training or Engineering Technical Training, preferred.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, and understand and follow directions, both orally and in writing.
  • Basic mathematical principles that are necessary to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of building regulations and of blueprint and plan reading and interpretation.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power equipment, tools and materials in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, work independently and work as part of team
  • Ability to be extremely flexible in an environment that is subject to many “spur of the moment” changes.
  • Must possess excellent follow-up and follow-through skills with an eye for detail, and time management skills.
  • Self- motivated and able to work with little or no supervision with excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Safety minded, knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Possess knowledge of life safety systems, including fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • This position is a physically strenuous and demanding job. Lifting, pulling and managing equipment and tools (up to 50 pounds), walking, climbing, squatting, standing, and working in all weather (both extreme heat and cold) will be required.
