Overview

The Brewing Supervisor will monitor the performance management of the Brewing Department by ensuring KPI compliance and attainment for tasks integral to the operation and overall performance of the department. The Brewing Supervisor will work closely with the Sr. Manager and Brewing Leads to align daily and weekly goals and targets are met on time, and will lead the Brewing team to achieve these targets. You will be fully cross-trained in all areas and qualified to complete all tasks, to better lead and serve as a valuable trouble-shooting resource for the Brewing Operators. This role will work closely with all internal brewery departments including EHS, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Logistics.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure tasks in brewing, blending, kitting, sanitation, and quality are completed per MAB standards.
  • Effectively communicate job knowledge and process changes to the brewing team members and management through various forms of daily communication (shift handover meeting, daily production meetings, email, action logs, work orders, etc.).
  • Recommend Brewing recipe to the Brewery Manager by reviewing Quality data.
  • Use understanding of Fermentation science to monitor fermenter efficiency and movement.
  • Analyze finished product quality data to adjust process parameters of inline blending systems.
  • Supervise CIP efficiency and adjust system parameters based on titration and ATP data.
  • Monitor audit data of inline instrumentation and provide feedback to the maintenance team for calibrations.
  • Analyze micro data to understand and close gaps in process sanitation.
  • Routinely supervise department process data including brewing, fermentation, filtration, blending, and sanitation logs and drive process changes as needed.
  • Be an active participant in the sensory analysis of raw materials, in-process and finished goods.
  • Audit documentation to ensure it is completed which certifies completion of inventory checks, quality inspections, sanitation requirements, batch and blending production following SOP’s, and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Logistical Functions
  • Ensure continuous operation of process equipment through active operator management, process monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure safety, mechanical, and electrical issues reported by the operators are being dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that inventory levels are accurate and managed to meet scheduled production.
  • Daily-Weekly schedule creation for kitting, brewing, and blending to align with production needs.
  • Team & Leadership Functions
  • Lead by example and drive all Plant and Safety policies and procedures within the Brewery, including compliance to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Brewer Development & Training Plan – coordinate and sign-off on all Brewer training to ensure no gaps in shift skills.
  • New Brewer mentor and skills progress – actively participate in the training and progress of all new Brewers through completion and sign-off of their 90 day onboarding period.
  • Brewer Scheduling – create schedules, act as primary contact for call-outs and coverage, coordinate vacation selection, and approve time sheets.
  • Brewer 1:1 – work with Sr. Manager to actively mentor brewers, ensure Brewer 1:1 completion is on-time and act as contact for brewer development and 1:1 action log progress.

Qualifications, Education, & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Brewing/Fermentation, or 5+ years relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of brewing, blending, and packaging; IBD Brewing/Packaging or equivalent certification and experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a high-speed manufacturing facility. Previous experience in a brewery or CPG facility preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing methodologies (6S, RCA, Process Maps, etc.).
  • Proven track record to develop, motivate, and empower employees while encouraging an environment that promotes teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge of GMPs and HACCP programs, preferably in the food/beverage industry.
  • Clear communication and organization.
