Bookkeeper

Cooperative Housing Corporation (CHC)

Reports to: Director

The Bookkeeper coordinates all financial aspects within the office. The Bookkeeper maintains the General Ledger, as well as bank accounts, cash receipts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll with direct deposit, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, budgets, distribution and reconciliation of grant awards. From time to time, in concert with the Director, negotiates outside vendor contracts.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in the field of finance/accounting, especially with non-profit or public agencies
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good relationship skills
  • Organized, patient and empathetic
  • Neat and Professional Appearance
  • Communicate well with others
  • Must be computer literate in QuickBooks Pro, Excel, Word and on the Internet
  • Experience in working with older adults and special needs populations a plus
  • Preferable Accounting Major/Business Degree

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for daily accounting functions in the office.

  • Billing/Invoicing/Working with funding sources ,e.g., Board of Social Services, CDBG, Somerset County Dept. of Human Services, DCA, HAS as well as clients.
  • Checking, entering and paying all other invoices.
  • Posting cash receipts, bank deposits; setup Direct Debit for residents, security deposits, and bank account reconciliation.
  • Ongoing reconciliation of income/expenses toward goal of maintaining agency’s consistent fiscal health.
  • Review expense contracts/services and negotiate premiums.
  • Human resources: Health Insurance (renews annually) and Employee Benefits
  • Biweekly payroll with direct deposit, payroll reports, payroll tax deposits.
  • Monthly Financial Reports for Board Meetings, Quarterly Payroll Reports for Payroll Taxes, Annual Budgets, monthly and quarterly grant expenditure reports.
  • Maintain system for procurement policies and procedures.
  • Collecting financial information from intakes and coming up with initial quote and renewal.
  • Work with grant writers
  • Collecting outstanding debt from residents.

2. Responsible, in concert with the Executive Director, for researching, creating, developing, and implementing project-based funding “packages” including private enterprise incentives.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.51 - $24.70 per hour
