Job Summary


Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a full-time residential faculty member to join our dedicated, passionate faculty team beginning Fall 2023 to work under the Learning College philosophy (http://www.estrellamountain.edu/learning-college) and placing learning first anyway, anyplace, anytime. This position is responsible for teaching college level biology courses with a focus on Microbiology for allied health students. In addition to teaching, assessment, and professional growth activities, residential faculty are also required to participate in departmental, college, and district-wide activities, such as serving on committees and work teams, directing student clubs, research, and special projects.

Essential Functions

  • Teaches a diverse population of students by incorporating multiple methods of instruction and assessment in a classroom and lab setting.
  • Develops written syllabi and course/lab materials, evaluates student knowledge of subject matter taught and maintains course grades, prepares and grades exams and other assignments.
  • Utilizes Canvas and appropriate teaching platforms for course administration.
  • Maintains office hours to assist and mentor students.
  • Participates in divisional, college, and district activities.
  • Collaborates with faculty, lab staff, tutors, and other student support services.
  • Participates in professional development to stay current with new trends and developments in the field of Biology and teaching and learning.
  • Participates in developing and/or revising curriculum within the division and district.

Minimum Qualifications


1. Master’s degree or higher with 18 graduate semester hours
in the teaching field.

OR

Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field is required.

2. EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire.


Desired Qualifications

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in biology; Microbiology/Molecular/Cellular biology preferred
  • Experience teaching college-level microbiology or cellular/molecular biology content in lecture and lab settings, community college level preferred.
  • Experience developing microbiology curriculum, lab activities, and/or assessments.
  • Experience in a leadership role collaborating within an educational team.
  • Experience in integrating relevant and innovative pedagogy and technology to support community college students.
  • Experience working with a teaching philosophy that addresses working with a diverse population of students to promote success and retention.

Special Working Conditions


Exposure to biology laboratory chemicals, specimens (including preserved specimens, Level 1 microbes).

May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation

May require teaching some evenings or weekends

May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
