This Biobank Lab Processing Technician II will be responsible for:

  • Performing pre analytical specimen preparation, including checking in and ID Validation of specimens, identifying appropriate Servicing workflows based on SOPs/Project Specific Job Aids, evaluating specimen quality upon receipt, aliquoting and DNA/RNA extraction
  • Preparing samples for storage, sending out and any other special requests
  • Ensuring sample integrity by performing spectrometric and fluorescence quality control assays
  • Operating Laboratory Information Management System (BioSTOR), such as querying databases, ordering services, and closing work orders
  • Providing courteous and timely customer service to providers calling or visiting the lab. Handling more complex inquiries
  • Assisting in writing and editing SOPs and Project Specific Job Aids
  • Performing daily QC and routine evaluation of instrumentation such as centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, liquid handlers, extraction instrumentation etc
  • Maintaining workplace in a neat and orderly fashion, monitoring supply inventory to keep work area adequately stocked and orders as necessary
  • Training Level I staff and/or operates laboratory equipment/instruments, depending on lab placemen
  • Monitoring, continuously, specimen workflow and ensuring quick response for STAT orders
  • Participating in assigned departmental Quality Improvement processes, as necessary
  • During business hours (8am to 6pm) monitoring freezer performance to ensure integrity of specimens used for clinical and research purposes
  • During off hours (6pm to 8am, weekend and holiday), carrying a pager connected to a remote temperature alarm system. Lab employees at the Biobank carry the Freezer On-Call Pager for 1-week rotation. The on-call employee is obligated to monitor alarms and must respond to alarms in less than 2 hours in case of an emergency.

In order to qualify, you must have:

  • 4 years’ experience with an Associate’s Degree or 2 years’ experience with a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Skills to perform statistical calculation for data reporting
  • Knowledge of MS Office software especially Excel
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques and equipment
