Billing Technician

Location:

1101 Parkway View Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205

Status:

Full-time

Work Schedule:

40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, scheduled between hours of 1:30pm to 10:00pm. Weekend shifts may be required on a rotating basis as needed.


As a Pharmacy Billing Technician you will be responsible for maintaining complete patient records and the accurate and timely adjudication of pharmacy claims with third-party payers to ensure receipt of payment for services rendered. Reports to the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor or Pharmacist Manager who is responsible for direct supervision of this position. Also has accountability to all other team members and co-workers to complete assigned tasks, to perform the duties required by the job, and to be present for their proper shifts in order to fulfill or further the goals of the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and submits clean claims to various commercial insurance companies, Hospice, Medicare, and Medicaid; apply copay, deductible, and unpaid medications charges to patient private pay accounts
  • Identifies, researches, and resolves patient billing issues
  • Contact insurance carriers to make inquiries regarding claim denials, resubmits, and client coverage
  • Manages rejected claims and coordinates solution with Facility when applicable
  • Rebills insurance companies or other third parties to secure payment for Beneficiaries
  • Ensure Prior Authorization process is completed to extent possible from pharmacy and communicated to physicians/facility
  • Review census files from Long Term Care facilities on a weekly basis and reconcile any changes to patients’ status (e.g. bill-to location, admission, discharge, insurance) with electronic profile records
  • Obtain necessary documentation from Long Term Care facilities or patients to correctly bill all pharmacy claims
  • Update customer master file with notes regarding billing status

  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of procedures for billing various payers such as commercial insurance and hospice
  • Proficient in computerized pharmacy records system
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Pharmacy technician certification issued by a state or national credentialing body
  • Knowledge of prescription order entry procedures
  • Certificate or diploma in postsecondary pharmacy technician program or equivalent combination of education and job experience
