Position Title: BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN - Part-time and Contingent positions available

Position Purpose:

This is a fun position of working with kids of all ages and skill levels. This is a great opportunity for people who love working with kids, and enjoy fields such as teaching, nursing, medicine/pediatrics, special education, psychology, social work, OT, speech, art therapy or music therapy. The behavior technician is an essential position for implementing ABA treatment and completing tasks such as direct implementation of ABA treatment, play and daily living skills with clients, compiling and analyzing client progress data, and other tasks assigned by the BCBA Clinical Team Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong interpersonal skills, such as professional interactions with parents, clients and coworkers
  • Energetic, playful and creativity with clients of all ages
  • Takes initiative and seeks learning opportunities
  • Ability to problem solve and think creatively about teaching skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • UPAC will provide on site paid training for the clinical skills necessary for this position.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

  • Working one-on-one with a child diagnosed with autism.
  • Utilization of Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy (ABA) strategies as instructed by a Lead Behavior Technician and Board Certified Behavior Analysis (BCBA).
  • The daily activities with the child include instructing/ educating (from basic daily living skills to craft skills and language skills), playing, running, laughing with, feeding, toileting, cleaning, lifting the child, squatting, shifting positions and more.
  • Working in a team environment.
  • Participating in meetings for the child, team and staff meetings.
  • Taking, maintaining and filing data.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the individual rooms and classroom.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
  • Employees are expected to be available to provide services during non- traditional work setting when needed during these non-traditional business hours. Employees should understand that their schedule could change based on company need.

Working Conditions:

  • Providing physical care, support, guidance, and supervision of daily activities consistent with the treatment plan and ABA programming.
  • They need to be physically and mentally flexible as things are constantly changing in this workplace.
  • They must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, sit and stand for long periods, run for short durations, and move between these actions readily.
  • Maintaining a safe therapeutic environment for the client and their family.
  • Assisting with physical management of clients. At times staff are required to lift a child and support clients ages 0-21 who have challenging and sometimes severe problem behavior.
  • Engaging in physical activities that may include sitting and standing for long periods of time, getting up and down off the floor, running, and other physical activities related to play with children of all ages.
  • Assisting with daily living activities that may include changing soiled clothing and diapers, and assisting clients with dressing, showering, brushing teeth, etc.
  • All staff will follow the ethical guidelines outlined by the BACB https://www.bacb.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/170706-compliance-code- english.pdf and uphold the UPAC organizational values, policies and procedures. This includes maintaining confidentiality of client information, both written and verbal, running treatment to integrity, and treating all people with dignity and respect.
  • All staff must also follow established policies and procedures to meet minimum life safety standards of JCAHO/OSHA and the Department of Human Services SOM Licensing.
  • UP Autism Centers provide services, including home services to children with autism. The hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Employees are expected to be available to provide services in non-traditional work setting when needed during these non- traditional business hours. Employees should understand that their schedule could change based on company need.
