SCOPE OF POSITION: Seeks justice with professionalism, excellence and pride, consistent with the New Hampshire Rules of Professional Conduct, American Bar Association and National District Attorney’s Association guidelines, as a criminal prosecutor with a concentration in Superior Court.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Acts as counsel for the State of New Hampshire in felony criminal matters.
  • Supervises and directs the work of the Assistant County Attorneys and the support staff within one of the catchment areas.
  • Acts as direct liaison to the police departments within the assigned areas, including conducting trainings as needed.
  • Accounts for all aspects of investigations, preparations and prosecutions of matters within the statutory and common law jurisdiction of the County Attorney, as assigned. This includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Effectively prepares and prosecutes all levels of felony, misdemeanor and violation charges in an assigned caseload, as well as juvenile cases as assigned and some statutory committal matters, in District, Superior and Probate Courts.
  • Drafts indictments, complaints and petitions.
  • Prepares all forms and pleadings necessary to bring to completion any matter in the statutory jurisdiction of the office.
  • Researches pertinent case laws, decisions and legislations.
  • Presents investigations and cases to the Grand Jury; Conducts Bench trials, Jury trials and all required hearings related to the assigned caseload.
  • Works closely with Victim/Witness Coordinators to ensure that all witnesses/victims are properly informed, prepared and supported throughout the prosecution process.
  • Adheres to and upholds the New Hampshire Rules of Professional Conduct, the ABA and NDAA prosecutorial guidelines, and all policies as delineated in the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office Manual.
  • Serves on multi-disciplinary agency teams such as the Child Advocacy Center and Sexual Assault Resource Team.
  • Collaborate with community partners such as DCYF, Haven, and local schools.
  • Maintains open lines of communications and positive interactions with local law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, defense bar and the public.
  • Assists in the professional development of the office staff.
  • Reviews and evaluates employee performance annually and/or as required.
  • Must be able to work hours as needed based on the requirements of the position and the department. On call 24/7 on a rotating schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor from accredited law school, and
  • 3 (three) to 5 (five) years of experience as a criminal attorney, or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A member in good standing of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
  • In-depth knowledge of principles and rules of law, rules of evidence and the New Hampshire criminal justice system.
  • Ability to effectively analyze information in a short period of time.
  • Excellent judgment, tact, courtesy, maturity and communication (written and oral) skills are essential.
  • Ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Supervisory and conflict resolution skills are required.
