Job Description


Tour II: 9:00am - 5:00pm

Purpose of Position:

More than one-third of the patients and family caregivers who utilize the services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County require language access and/or Limited English Proficiency (LEP) services. The Assistant Director for Language Access would ensure that the processes are effectively in place to ensure that our patients can receive services in accordance with their preferred language.

Areas of Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Experience Officer, the Assistant Director of Language Access will support the day-to-day administration of language services activities and assignments to support the hospital’s language access program. The Assistant Director of Language Access will work closely with Kings County’s Patient Guest Relations Department and the System Office of Diversity and Inclusion team to deliver interpretation, translation and other communication-related access initiatives.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Translation coordination and translation project management assignments related to language access.
  • Conduct special projects based on operational needs.
  • Contribute to the development of training content for in-service training and professional development for personnel where activities are related to the work of the office.
  • Support the development and implementation of evaluation tools to measure program effectiveness and identify opportunities to develop improved methods; devise evaluation methodology; analyze results and recommend and/or take appropriate action.
  • Prepare funding proposals and reports.
  • Support Patient Guest Relations and Care Experience, to ensure the successful development and implementation of new programs, systems and/or procedures
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications


  • - Qualification for Central Office
# - Qualification for Health Care Facilities
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social science, social work, public health or other related field; and
2. * Four (4) or # three (3) years of satisfactory progressively responsible experience in the field of patient relations, public health, or social services in a health, social science, educational medical care or related agency of which at least two (2) years in an administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity; or
3. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Health Advocacy, Public or Hospital Administration, Health Care Specialization, Business Administration or related disciplines; and * three (3) or # two (2) years of satisfactory progressively responsible experience in the field of patient relations, public health, or social services in a health, social science, educational medical care or related agency, including at least one (1) year in an administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; and
4. Administrative and management skills, and good communicative, written and oral skills; or
5. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training and experience.

Department Preferences


Knowledgable In:

  • Administration of language access activities preferred.
  • CMS and other regulatory requirements in language access and LEP services preferred.
