DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
GBH Strategy works to explain the evolving media landscape, as well as internal and external issues we face, to the GBH community (leadership, staff, Board), so we can collaboratively develop solutions to create a thriving and more sustainable future for GBH. As part of the strategy department, the Digital Content team provides GBH’s diverse content production, journalism and business units with strategic guidance, audience development support and digital content production and disciplined experimentation. The team is a dynamic, versatile group of digital producers with skills in digital video, social media, email and website content development.
JOB OVERVIEW
Boston’s public media station GBH is looking for a talented video creator to fuel social video production for the station's Digital Content unit. This social video producer would be part of a small team comprised of producers and editors who create native video content for digital and social video platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
This producer will pitch, develop, shoot, edit and distribute platform-specific stories and series. This producer will create content in the most popular formats on social platforms, specifically vertical video (TikTok, Reels), in-feed video (Facebook) and live streams.
Candidates must demonstrate excellence in video storytelling with strong composition, timing and presentation. Attention to detail and a mastery of spelling, punctuation, news writing and AP Style are required. The candidate must be comfortable and willing to be on-camera, be able to translate linear broadcast content to social platforms, and work closely and collaboratively with talent.
The social producer’s portfolio will range from original projects to working with GBH’s powerhouse brands, from national PBS series such as Masterpiece and Antiques Roadshow, to PBS Kids series Arthur and Molly of Denali, to local productions like High School Quiz Show and GBH News.
This will be a hybrid role, although candidates must be able to easily come into GBH’s studios in Boston for meetings and the surrounding areas for shoots.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Shoot and edit video for original projects and pilots as produced by the Digital Content team
  • Shoot and edit video for GBH productions’ social media channels
  • Produce content for news feeds, Stories, vertical video, live streams, lenses, filters and other social video formats.
  • Builds consensus for, and interest in, production proficiency in social video production across GBH
  • Proactively stay on top of trends/best practices for social video platforms and develop new creative ideas and approaches regularly
  • Manage priorities to meet deadlines
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure adherence to brand standards
  • Responsible for implementing diversity goals and benchmarks for digital video content (in coordination with content diversity initiatives being implemented across GBH)
  • Contributes to the communication and education around social video at GBH
SKILL SET
  • A creative visual storyteller
  • Willingness to be on camera, in a reporter and/or host role
  • Great storytelling ability and strong social media chops
  • Proven track record of producing and editing video content for emerging platforms
  • In-app editing and graphic design skills; additional proficiencies such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Facebook AR Studio, TikTok Effect Studio
  • Deep knowledge of the latest tools and best practices on emerging social video platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Experience with vertical video production (TikTok, Reels), with a sharp eye for what works, and the ability to find innovative ways to push boundaries of the format
  • Experience with live streaming production, such as IG or TikTok Live
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt as markets and audience behaviors shift
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to consistently produce results under pressure in a fast-paced environment both as an individual contributor, as well as an individual in a team environment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • At least 2 years of social video production experience
  • Professional expertise in creating and growing an audience for a social media channel/account through social video
  • Experience producing educational or youth-focused content
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment
  • Ability to work various shifts and times, including evening and special events as needed
