Job description
The Client Services Division is recruiting for WTC Disability Case Management Specialist to work in the WTC Intensive Case
Management unit for the Medical Operations Team.
Under the direction of the Manager for Disability Case Management and with some latitude for independent judgement this position
will:
Maintain a caseload of active WTC & Accidental Death Benefit (ADB)-WTC case files; ensuring that at each step of the
process members and claimants receive clear, concise communication about the progress of their applications.
Conduct initial application interviews for WTC & ADB WTC disability applicants and claimants as well as all follow-ups
and outreaches in order to ensure appropriate and compassionate processing of the applicants WTC application.
Provide compassionate service and support for members & claimants with member agencies, medical providers, member
authorized representatives, or other units in the NYCERS organization regarding WTC & ADB WTC and other disability
retirement applications.
Prepare application documentation request and all correspondences for distribution to members/authorized representatives
and agencies, while streamlining the process as much as possible utilizing phone calls, faxes, emails as well as hard copy
mailing.
Prepare and coordinate with other NYCERS units BOT resolutions and health insurance letters for BOT ratification.
Follow up and track WTC Notice of Participation requests.
Coordinate member appointment schedules with the NYCERS Medical Board and/or Independent Medical Exam (IME)
relating to WTC applications.
Make timely updates in all tracking systems regarding the status of WTC applications and prepare statistics on WTC data as
needed
Participate in meetings, trainings or presentations as needed on WTC related topics and processes
Work with Client Service leadership as needed in support of all communication materials related to WTC
Preferred skills:
Prior experience in benefit administration/operations, including defined benefit retirement plan administration, or relevant related
experience a plus but not required.
Prior experience in major business transformation initiatives such as a legacy replacement project a plus.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
1. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 9
semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and two years of satisfactory full-time experience
performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations in one or more of the following: a) a retirement or employee
benefits plan; b) for customer service in a financial institution; and/or c) in a position requiring the application of law, rules and
regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial or similar tables; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized
accrediting organization and four years of the experience described in "1" above. Each 15 semester credits from an accredited college
including at least 3 credits in the areas described in "1" above may be substituted for each 6 months of experience to a maximum of 2
years’ experience. All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least 2 years of
experience as described in "1" above.
