The Associate Director of Leadership Activities is responsible for the administration of event management and contributes to student club advising, with the primary function of advising, coordinating and supervising the programs and co-curricular activities of over 100 student clubs and organizations. The position also mentors the Inter-Class Council and each individual class council, as well as the Vice President for Club Affairs, a member of the SGA Executive Committee. The Associate Director is the primary advisor of the SGA Class Councils, Student Entertainment Committee, Chillmore (late night programming) and other clubs/committees as assigned. Additionally, the position manages SkidSync, the online platform for clubs and student event management.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Advises SGA Class Councils, SGA Vice President for Club Affairs, Student Entertainment Committee, Fun Day Committee and Chillmore on college policies and best practices through weekly in-person meetings. Also contributes to the advising of Skidmore’s 100+ active clubs as needed.
  • Plans and conducts trainings and coaching sessions open to the entire student body that will educate participants on matters of sound, ethical, and effective leadership. Sample training topics include defining your leadership style, using SkidSync, club leadership transition, conflict resolution, event management, and women’s leadership.
  • Negotiates and reviews complex contracts with national level entertainment acts. Negotiates best deal for purchase of talent and other outside contractors including compensation, breach or cancellation of event ramifications, % of proceeds for merchandising, and performance issues (length of concert, noise ordinances, transportation, etc).
  • Manages and implements events both on and off campus. Collaborates with other college departments and off campus vendors/venues on various programs throughout the year. Attends programs where there could be safety concerns, where there is a large general public attendance or where student leaders may need assistance in running a successful event. Conducts follow up meetings with student planning groups for assessment purposes.
  • Acts as an administrative liaison at major all-college events hosted by SGA organizations. Conducts follow up meetings with large-event planning organizations for assessment purposes. Contributes to Large Event Working Group and Alcohol and Other Drug College Committee as it pertains to student organization events as needed.
  • Manages SkidSync, the online platform for clubs and student event management. Maintains daily club event request submissions, e-board position updates, and event promotions on SkidSync. Implements yearly club renewal process through SkidSync and end of the year transition programs to communicate policy and enable the continued success of organizations. Thinks creatively about using SkidSync and social media to promote programs and further the mission of the office.
  • Contributes to overall planning and administration of various campus life and college initiatives. Works on College committees such as Campus Sustainability Sub-Committee and college search committees.
  • Attendance at various student programs (some evening/late night programs) where staff supervision may be deemed mandatory by Director of Leadership Activities or Dean of Students.

Education : Master’s Degree in related field

Experience : 3-4 Years relevant experience

  • Ability to think critically and creatively both independently and with other diverse bodies.
  • Ability to assess risk and put necessary procedures in place to minimize that risk.
  • Must have strong knowledge of higher education leadership theories and student development outcomes.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Leadership and training/programming skills.

This position is in the 140 band.
