The Peddie School’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking to hire a full-time mental health professional for the position of Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services. This is a 10-month faculty position spanning the academic school year from mid-August until mid-June for a clinician licensed to practice independently or under the supervision of the appropriate licensed professional. Experience working in a mental health setting with adolescents along with experience working in a school setting is strongly preferred.
You would be working in close collaboration with both the Director of CAPS and the school counselor with the primary responsibility of providing supportive counseling for individual students. This position is typically contained within the hours of the school day (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). There will be some intermittent weekend Health Center on-call coverage. The offices are situated in the Yu Center for Student Support, which is attached to the Health Center. The Health Center is staffed at all hours serving Peddie’s approximately 530 students, two-thirds of whom board on campus.
Additional Responsibilities:

  • A comfort in evaluating and managing students in crisis. This will often involve collaboration with outside mental health professionals. You may need to coordinate a support plan or provide supplemental support in addition to an outside provider.
  • Refer students to outside mental health professionals when indicated or desired by the student or family.
  • Close collaboration with our Director of Health Services and nurses at the Health Center.
  • Close collaboration with the Department of Academic Support for students who are struggling both emotionally and academically.
  • Close collaboration with the Assistant Head for Student Life and Class Deans.
  • Protect student confidentiality while working collaboratively with student advisors, teachers, coaches and dorm faculty when permissible.
  • Parent consultation and support when needed and appropriate.
  • Provide oversight of outreach to the school community at large for education and mental health support initiatives.
  • Assume duties of the Director in their absence.
