Whiting-Turner is looking for a self motivated, energetic, detailed oriented, tech savvy person to help support our current Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) processes and develop new VDC processes for our fabrication shop. Our fabrication shop is a construction pre-fabrication shop. We manufacture assemblies to be included in building construction projects.

Work Location: Orangeburg, SC

Job Title: Assistant VDC Manager

Job Summary: Execute VDC tasks for fabrication shop. These VDC tasks may include 3D Modeling, CAD work, detailing, and a variety of other computer-based fabrication tasks. Be actively involved in process development and improvements for shop. Test new VDC software/hardware/technology and develop ways to make fabrication shop more efficient.

Job Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Technology Deployment

  • Using Design BIM model to develop fabrication models
  • Create Fabrication Drawings including but not limited to dimensioned Plans/Elevations and Bill of Materials
  • Use Revit families to create intelligent model that generates automatic shop drawings
  • Create assembly diagrams to aid in field/shop assembly of panels
  • Use CAD software to facilitate in wall takeoffs and budget estimates
  • Basic clashing for MEP trunklines and structural elements
  • Create project models, deliverables & other 3D content as required.
  • Deploy other technologies at manufacturing facility as required.

Working with partners

  • Provide assistance and help develop Building Information Modeling, and CAD files with team.
  • Assist with virtual mock-up exercises.
  • Work with project team to develop and complete quality control checks on models.
  • Work with project team to ensure all models are clean and usable by everyone.
  • Deploy manufacturing technologies.
  • Manage changes and updates to models.
  • Develop supplemental documents for use by superintendents & shop crews.
  • Guide review meetings of models and fabrication details
  • Test new software programs and make recommendations on use.

Skill Set:

Software/Hardware

  • Excellent General Computing Skills
  • Autodesk Revit Architecture
  • Autodesk CAD
  • Understand file sharing sites
  • Understand Manufacturing technology

Other

  • Able to read drawings, specifications, building codes, and other technical data
  • Basic Construction and/or Manufacturing Knowledge
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self motivated, energetic, detailed oriented, and open minded
  • Ability to work well with cross-discipline teams
  • Able to quickly adapt and learn new software and technology.

Education/Experience

  • Associates Degree OR Bachelors degree (or equivalent) with preference given to Construction Technology, Architectural, Civil Engineering, Geospatial, CADD, Construction Management, related degrees.
  • Prefer 5+ years in building or design industry, but not necessary
  • Experience with VDC/BIM
  • Experience in a manufacturing or construction setting
