The Day Care Assistant Teacher will support the teacher in managing the day to day operations of the classroom. This position is Full-Time and reports to the Program Director.

Duties

  • Works with team to plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum;
  • Ensure all aspects of the program’s policies and procedures are practiced at all times;
  • Maintain working knowledge of emergency procedures and EEC regulations;
  • Assist in the creation of a positive atmosphere that boosts the self-esteem and general self-concept of all participants;
  • Maintain an open communication with parents and co-workers;
  • Responds to children in an age-appropriate and respectful way;
  • Maintain a professional manner at all times with children, parents, and co-workers;
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service days;
  • Work with team to keep room safe, orderly, attractive, clean and supplied with necessary materials and equipment;
  • Work with the Teacher to write observations and complete children’s progress reports in November, February, and June (quarterly for children with disabilities) and conducts parent conferences as needed;
  • Familiar with all of the procedures related to the program;
  • Attend a minimum of twenty (20) hours of training per calendar year. Five hours must be related to children with disabilities;
  • Understand responsibilities and reporting procedures as a Department of Social Services mandated reporter;
  • Participate in program family events a minimum of three (3) per school year and (1) during the summer;
  • Maintains awareness of health issues, with emphasis on being in tune with each child’s signs of illness;
  • Uses behavior management techniques that are developmentally appropriate; and
  • May be assigned other duties appropriate to Assistant Teacher Personnel.

Qualifications

  • Must possess the qualifications required for their positions in accordance with EEC regulations;
  • Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care Teacher Certification
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • BA/AA in Early Childhood Education or related field, preferred;
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification;
  • Completed CORI, SORI and fingerprint scan in accordance with regulations set forth by the Department of Early Education and Care;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementation of developmentally appropriate practice.
  • Knowledge of developmental stages of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners.
  • Flexibility, patience and a sense of humor essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
