SEEKING AN ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT of BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS starting the 2023/24 School Year

The Aspen School District is seeking a highly skilled, team-oriented Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations to begin on or before July 1, 2023. THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING OPPORTUNITY IN ONE OF COLORADO’S TOP SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE HEART OF THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS. The individual will provide and be accountable for the leadership, strategic direction, management, quality control, and evaluation of all the district’s financial operations, processes, and procedures as well as oversight of district operations. The Assistant Superintendent will need to be a clear communicator, authentic collaborator, a regular and visible presence in the schools and community, and a role model for attention to detail and process management. An individual who thrives in the outdoors and immerses oneself in, and contributes to, the culture of the greater community will be a strong candidate. The compensation package will be highly competitive, with a salary range of between $120,000 and $180,000 commensurate with experience and will include access to employee housing.

The Aspen district educates 1600 students (PK-12) in four schools that share a campus and the charter Aspen Community School (K-8). The district is well-resourced, with an excellent faculty and staff, high performing students, and an engaged, supportive community.

The ideal candidate will be forward thinking, have a degree in Finance or a related field (CPA License Preferred) and experience leading financial operations in a school district, non-profit, or government entity. The Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations reports to the Superintendent, attends all School Board meetings, and serves on the District’s Leadership team. The Assistant Superintendent needs to inspire confidence and credibility while ensuring that district leaders, staff, and community understand the current and potential future implications of financial decisions using a transparent and open approach. The Assistant Superintendent supports and should exemplify the relationship between the Aspen School District and all stakeholders with a service oriented, “customer support” mindset.
A critical responsibility of the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations will be to engage staff and stakeholders in achieving this goal from the District’s 2022-26 Strategic Plan:

e. _Develop a robust set of systems to control expenses and align our budget with the strategic plan.

A Master’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. At least five years of experience leading financial operations in education or governmental operations or equivalent preferred.
