Position: Assistant Scientist, NVD Process Development Seattle, WA

Position Summary

The Cell Therapy Drug Product Process Development group is seeking an enthusiastic, self-driven individual to join its innovation-focused, multi-disciplinary development team that is focused on advancing new products and enabling technologies. This role will be part of a team of associates, engineers, and scientists that develop processes and technologies for manufacturing T-cell therapies. The successful candidate will contribute to experimental design, execute experiments, analyze data, draft technical documents and reports, and present results to a broad audience.

Qualifications and Experience:

Assistant Scientist (EG-80): Bachelor’s degree in bio/chemical engineering, biochemistry or a related scientific field with 0-2 years of relevant experience

• Familiar with mammalian cell culture (gene editing a plus)
• Familiar with experimental protocol execution and documentation (design and analysis a plus)
• Basic knowledge of cell therapy
• Aseptic technique
• Experience with maintaining lab notebook and lab workspace
• Excellent communication, both written and verbal
• Excellent organization

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory operations such as cell culture maintenance, sampling for cell counts, preparing reagents and cell culture media
• Perform end to end process development unit operations for both at-scale and small scale experiments including activation, gene editing, expansion, harvest, and cryopreservation
• Perform gene editing specific laboratory operations including electroporation
• Working in a highly collaborative cross-functional matrix environment
• Presentation of experimental findings/results following study completion
• Aid in design and creation of phase-appropriate process development study plans
• Coordinate and manage sample transfer activities between various functional groups
• Timely and thorough documentation and completion of electronic laboratory notebooks
• Perform simple statistical data analysis where applicable
• Presentation of experimental findings/results following study completion
• Author reports detailing experimental work and summarizing results
• Supporting lab functions—including, but not limited to restocking consumables, maintaining equipment and cleaning
• Manage and maintain databases
• Flexibility with work schedule as maintenance of cell cultures on occasional weekends, early mornings, or evenings is required
• Up to 5% of time may be spent travelling outside of the city or country.
