SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. SOME’s affordable housing for families offers safe, dignified, and affordable apartments to families experiencing homelessness and/or poverty.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a full-time Assistant Property Manager for our Property Management department.

Position Description: The Assistant Property Manager's primary function is to assist the Property Manager in achieving the organization’s objectives and preserving the value of the property. The ideal candidate will have experience with property management databases, lease-ups, and Low Income Tax credits.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 4:30pm and one (1) late day per week.

Required: High School Diploma or associate’s degree in a related field (Business Administration, Real Estate, or Public Administration preferable), or equivalent knowledge. 1+ years of related work experience in Property Management.

Preferred: LIHTC (Low Income Housing Tax Credit) certification, Must possess and maintain a vehicle and valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record history to obtain and maintain employment. The vehicle should be safe and reliable (mileage will be reimbursed).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be familiar with housing management, Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program, HUD, Public Housing program/DCHA and comply with Fair Housing laws.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills, and outstanding customer service and demonstrate the ability to work as a critical member of a team that is committed to building strong communities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. OneSite/Yardi proficiency preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a vehicle and valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record history to obtain and maintain employment. The vehicle should be safe and reliable (mileage will be reimbursed).

Expected Contributions

  • Assist to achieve financial stability through cost reduction and implementation systems to maintain low delinquency. Participates in the preparation of the annual operating budget.
  • Completes all Tax Credit move-in certifications and re-certification in a timely manner. Sends reminder notices, as needed. Must be able to calculate the income and assets in compliance with SOME and industry standards.
  • Responsible for collecting rent, security deposits and miscellaneous income on behalf of the property and keeps accurate files
  • Inspects and shows units, prepares lease packages, performs lease orientations and signings, and submits relevant documentation to DCHA. Ensure timely and accurate certification for annual and interim.
  • Processes applications and prepare move-in packets.
  • Responds to questions and complaints from residents. Investigates complaints, disturbances, and violations. Resolves problems. Maintains a high standard of resident relations.
  • Special projects as assigned by the Property Manager.
