An environmental consulting company is looking for Assistant Project Manager/Associate Scientist in South Lake Tahoe, CA. The Assistant PM/Associate will be responsible for successfully designing sample programs, implementing investigations and writing project reports.

Pay Range: $65,000-$80,000 DOE

Responsibilities:

  • In the lab, invertebrate sorting, invertebrate identification, data entry, and maintaining chains of custody
  • In the field, lead field teams and ensure appropriate protocols are followed, with input from senior staff
  • Perform business development and administrative-related tasks to ensure the business remains competitive
  • Searching for prospective work and assisting in writing project proposals
  • Reviewing labor and monitoring project costs
  • Meet with agency representatives to establish goals for the field season
  • Plan and schedule field crews and equipment to ensure all agency needs are met efficiently
  • Lead field crews at multiple work sites by providing clear direction, expectations and measures for success; including diving with field crews on projects
  • Provide financial oversight on expenses related to projects
  • Provide progress reports weekly to Principal Project Manager
  • Provide monthly project tracking including accountability for hours worked and projects performed
  • Produce data to the Director of Marketing for monthly invoicing to the agency

Qualifications:
  • 3 years of experience in marine or aquatic project management or consulting experience is a must.
  • Must have advanced certification in SCUBA with at least 50 completed dives.
  • Experience with drafting brief technical reports and memorandums is a must.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a scientific discipline is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience mapping natural resources with GPS and remote sensing equipment/tech.
  • Knowledge of Pacific coastal ecosystems and the marine species that inhabit them.
  • Fundamental understanding of accepted scientific methods used in field sampling.
  • Leadership experience, with proven ability to effectively supervise or manage a small team (1-5 people).
  • Ability to travel when necessary (30% of the time, traveling overnight with the longest trips taking around 2-3 weeks off shore or out at sea).
  • Experience with CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) and marine environmental planning is a plus.
