The Department of Physics, The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), seeks applications from highly qualified candidates for a tenure-track Clare Boothe Luce (CBL) Assistant Professor position in the area of materials physics related to Quantum computing and Quantum Science. Subject to approval from the CBL advisory board and the requirements for institutional support from the foundation, the successful candidate will be designated as Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor in Physics. CBL appointments offer qualified tenure-track female candidates exceptional support in teaching and scholarship and discretionary support to support the CBL professor's professional needs.


Job Requirements:


Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Physics or a related STEM field, possess postdoctoral experience, have a strong record of research accomplishments, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. The Physics department is strongly interested in recruiting faculty that share a vision of inclusive excellence that resonates with UTEP and the objectives of CBL. According to the CBL website, CBL Assistant Professor candidates must:

  • display the potential for excellence in teaching and research and ability to engage undergraduates in their research programs;
  • demonstrate the ability to leverage the resources provided by the CBL Program and UTEP into a successful long-term research agenda;
  • demonstrate deep commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in support of all students, particularly women, in their disciplines and in in the advancement of discovery in general;
  • show the potential for leadership within their departments, colleges, and UTEP community, their disciplinary communities, and broader efforts to support women and other minoritized students in STEM; and
  • demonstrate commitment to support interdisciplinary research.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated attention to promoting STEM education and research opportunities to pre-college, college and graduate students, should be able to establish and maintain an independent research program at UTEP that complements the existing research in the department, teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, perform service to the Department, College and University, and engage in outreach activities. The new hire will be a core faculty of the Physics Graduate Program and instrumental in expanding the Quantum Science research in the Department of Physics. The university has committed to support of this position with generous start-up funds.
