Job Description
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Geotechnical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023 or later.
The Department seeks an individual with an outstanding academic record and dedication to excellence in teaching and research. Desired candidates should have strengths which complement those of current faculty in the Geotechnical Engineering Program. Candidates with an established track record of early career research and the ability to conduct multidisciplinary research with other areas of civil engineering, such as structural, pavement, and environmental engineering are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are desired.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Develop and maintain an active, independent, and externally-funded research program; mentor and advise graduate and undergraduate students; teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and serve on the department, college, university, and professional committees.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field of civil engineering at the time of appointment.
  • The research areas of interest broadly include, but are not limited to: computational geomechanics, bio-geotechnics, big data analytics, geothermal and energy foundations, in-situ testing, unsaturated soil, landslides, geosynthetics, sustainable civil infrastructure and lifelines, ground improvements, and other emerging areas of geotechnical engineering.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Civil and Environmental Engineering Department
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is a highly research-active department with over 550 BS, MS, and PhD students, 22 tenured/tenure-track faculty, and six research faculty and technical staff. The department offers ABET-accredited BS degree programs in both Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and graduate programs in five sub-disciplines that are nationally ranked by US News and World Report. The department has annual research expenditures of over $6.5M, funded by external grants. The department actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in all programs and activities.
